It's Cherry Blossom Time!

History of the Cherry Trees

Pink and white blossoms with droplets of water

The tradition of celebrating the blooming of cherry trees in Japan is centuries old.

The planting of cherry trees in Washington DC originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan.

In Japan, the flowering cherry tree, or "Sakura," is an important flowering plant. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a symbol with rich meaning in Japanese culture.

For more than a hundred years, the U.S. has celebrated cherry trees blooming in solidarity.

What is the difference between Global Entry and TSA PreCheck?

Global Entry:
• Purpose: Expedites customs and immigration processing when returning to the U.S. from international travel.
• Benefits: Includes TSA PreCheck benefits, allows you to skip long customs lines by using self-service kiosks, and eliminates the need for an in-person customs interview and paperwork.
• Who it's for: Primarily for international travelers.
• Cost: $120 for a 5-year membership.
• Application: Apply online through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website and attend an enrollment center for an interview.
• Important Note: If you have Global Entry, you automatically have TSA PreCheck benefits.

TSA PreCheck:
• Purpose: Streamlines security screening at airport security checkpoints for flights departing from U.S. airports.
• Benefits: Allows you to keep shoes, belts, and light jackets on, leave laptops and liquids in your bag, and potentially wait less than 10 minutes for security.
• Who it's for: Primarily for domestic travelers.
• Cost: $78-$85 for a 5-year membership.
• Application: Apply online through the TSA website and attend an enrollment center for an interview.

Happy First Day of Spring!

Amsterdam comes alive with flowers in the parks, sunshine in the skies, and boats along the canals. Visiting Amsterdam in spring is an enchanting, colorful experience that belongs on every traveler’s bucket list.

You’ll find plenty of flowers around the city, but for the entire floral experience, nothing beats a trip to Holland’s world-famous flower strip, or ‘bollenstreek’. Head to Keukenhof Gardens between March and May for the best blooms, or get involved in Amsterdam’s annual Tulip Festival, which runs throughout April.

When your client says they need to get away to a relaxing, peaceful place to chill, you suggest Negril: Capital Of Casual.

"Love Sunset at the Palms. The lushness, the greenery, the plants! As a plant mother I felt at home. The resort was low key, chill and frills. The food was good. Staff are super friendly. The beach was really nice. Definitely a different vibe from all the other places in that area. I’d go back." NE-NYC

Chef Leah Chase
Leah Chase, the heart and soul of Crescent City chefs and why she will always be, the "Queen of Creole Cuisine"
January 6, 1923 - June 1, 2019

A James Beard award-winning chef and an inspiration for a Disney princess, the late Leah Chase spent seven decades stirring, chopping, spooning, basting and, in general, creating countless delicious meals in her establishment, the famed Dooky Chase’s Restaurant in the Treme-Lafitte neighborhood.

Chef Chase first began cooking in 1946. Although she passed in 2019, her restaurant continues her traditions into the present day, offering her informal lunch buffet and more formal dinner of classic New Orleans cuisine such as Shrimp Clemenceau, red beans and Chicken Creole.

Frequently called the “Queen of Creole Cuisine,” Chef Chase became the inspiration for Princess Tiana in Disney’s animated 2009 classic The Princess and the Frog. Her honors have been many: Chef Chase received the 2016 James Beard Lifetime Achievement Award, the Lafcadio Hearn Hall of Honor at Nicholls State University's John Folse Culinary Institute, the Candace Award, the Freedom Foundation Award, the NAACP Human Understanding and A.P. Tureaud Awards, the Times-Picayune Loving Cup and the Weiss Award from The National Conference of Christians and Jews- to name a few. In 2025, the Chase family was awarded a James Beard America's Classics: South Award. She is the author of the Dooky Chase Cookbook.

When it comes to New Orleans soul food, there will never be anyone more soulful than Chef Leah Chase. Her legacy will continue to live on. Come. Sit at the table and taste her story.

Throwback.

Pompeii, a city frozen in time.

Pompeii is an incredible and fascinating place to visit because it is a testimony to ancient Greek and Roman history. It is a city that stands frozen in time buried under ash and pumice since the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Elafonissi Beach in Crete, Greece, was just named the best beach in the world by Tripadvisor.

Visitors love this coastal destination for its calm, clear water, and picture-perfect pink sands.

In its report, Tripadvisor praised Elafonissi Beach's "turquoise waters," pink sands, hiking trails, and plentiful sunbathing space. It also noted that the best times to visit are in May and September, which offer "warm, sunny weather with significantly fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months of June, July, and August."

As for what reviewers loved, many called out its stunning scenery, shallow waters, and remote location.

"It's an experience like no other. You seem to be at the Pacific Rim but actually in Crete, Greece," one reviewer wrote. "The clean, pale blue, salty sea works wonders if you have arthritis, believe me ... You can walk in about 15 feet and still be up to your hip in water. The road is quite good for driving. Go for it."
