Love dogs? So do we❣️

National Dog Day 🎉🐶🦴honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. 🤗 Dogs put their lives on the line every day - protecting our families and homes, for their law enforcement partner 👮👮‍♀️ for their blind companion, 🦮 for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and helping to locate and rescue 🐕‍🦺victims of accidents and tragedy.

Bench or chair? That is the question. 🤔 How do you like to people watch from in front of the Welcome Center on the Square? 👀In the dog days of summer—between scorching temperatures and muggy days— a nice place to sit provides the respite we all need to enjoy downtown Forsyth. 😎 You can sit in the chairs under the cover or on the bench out in the sun to bask in warmth. Whatever your preference, come enjoy the Rose Theater, the shops and restaurants of charming downtown Forsyth! 😌

A chair will do for Sydney and Lynette.
For Bella it is all about the pup cup from Scoops❣️

Groups of all sizes and interests choose Forsyth for their events. The Convention & Visitors Bureau helps them with the logistics and find the perfect venue, hotel stay, dining options — anything we can to support a great experience!
After working with them for three months, today was finally the day we delivered a box full of swag bags specially curated for the Craftin’ and Chattin’ group meeting at the LaQuinta this week. 🧵✂️📖 They are scrapbookers who hail from around the state. We are delighted they selected Forsyth for their get together! 👏

Even award winning photographer, Matt Odom couldn’t resist Coco. 😍
We were so lucky to get Matt and his assistant back in Forsyth to take photos for an upcoming Georgia Trend magazine. The July article will feature the CVB’s TravelBlazer award for turning the Forsyth Foxhunt 🦊into an accessible tour for the visually impaired. This award is about community collaboration to realize these attractions and the importance of tourism in the economic development of our community. 📚🌆🧳🛂💵📸
Thanks to the dedication and hard work of many we received this important recognition. 💙💛💙💛💙💛 We can’t wait to share the article and more photos! 👀📸

Forsyth is Georgia’s Public Safety Capital and we are all big fans of the K9 units and the good work of our local law enforcement. They are always on the ready to help our visitors and locals alike! 🤩 Thanks to Sheriff Freeman and his team for all you do! 👏

We thought you would like to get to
know another of these high energy, highly trained K9 units so we asked a few questions to their handler.

Name: Corporal Thompson
Years at Monroe County Sheriff’s Office: 4
Years as a K-9 handlers: 9
I currently work with my second K-9 officer.
I love the challenge of working with K-9 officers, things can change all the time and I must be able to adapt quickly and so does he.
Dog’s name: Tyson
Breed: German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois Mix
Age: 6 years
⭐️Tyson is a patrol dog which means he’s trained in Criminal Apprehension, Tracking and Scenting for Narcotics.
⭐️Tyson doesn’t bark at all; he’ll whine sometimes but he’s mostly a very quiet dog.
⭐️Tyson’s favorite food is his normal dog food which he devours with gusto.
My favorite food is steak, preferably medium rare to medium.

We thought you would like to get to
know one of these high energy, highly trained K9 units so we asked a few questions to their handler.

Name: Deputy Marsh
Years at Monroe County Sheriff’s Office: 2.5
Years as a K-9 Handler: 11
I currently work with my fifth K-9 officer.
My favorite thing about working with my K-9 officers is watching them progress from their training to full fledged police dogs.
Dog’s Name: Riki
Breed: Belgian Malinois
Age: 2 years
⭐️ Riki’s specialties include Criminal Apprehension, Tracking and Scenting for Narcotics
⭐️ A quirky trait of Riki’s is that he doesn’t realize he’s an 86-pound dog and is sure he’s much smaller.
⭐️ Deputy Marsh also says that Riki’s favorite treats are Grillers and pig ears. Deputy Marsh’s favorite food is a good steak, cooked medium rare.

Forsyth was teeming with visitors today. 👏There were so many stories! 🗣️We talked to a couple from Germany staying at the KOA, two Atlanta artists 🎨 down for the moonlight paddle 🛶 on the Ocmulgee River, people in town to visit family, and grandparents from Florida here to pickup the 😘 grands from Tennessee. We went out to the Forsyth Golf Club ⛳️ to welcome Superintendent Eugenia Harrison (pictured) and her team. The Forsyth Convention & Visitors Bureau worked with them to organize the Georgia Prison Wardens Golf Tournament. 🏆There were more than a dozen teams from around the state that came in support of one another and to enjoy our beautiful golf course. ⛳️They will be back in September to do it again!

I love my church, First Baptist, ⛪️ and have enjoyed serving on various committees.
I love to serve as a volunteer at the CVB! 👏 It’s always fun to meet newcomers to our community. I love Forsyth ❤️because it is still a small town where people are friendly and care for each other. It’s grown so much since my childhood but still maintains that small town feeling. 🥰

Happy Arbor Day ❣️🌳Arbor Day sprouted from the mind of a zealous tree lover named Julius Sterling Morton, who had a passion for planting all kinds of trees.
The first Arbor Day occurred on April 10, 1872, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. It’s estimated that nearly one million trees were planted on this day. 🌲

We don’t have a tree to plant but we are planting flowers in celebration of the day and our community ❣️🌺🌼
