TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: There are all kinds of new travel requirements for 2025. Update your driver license to a REAL I.D. by May 7, so you can board domestic flights. If you're headed to the UK, you'll need the UK ETA visa, and if you're headed to other European countries, the ETIAS visa will be required later this year, as well. Applying is relatively easy and quick, and costs are under $15 each. Make sure you have updated documentation for medical requirements such as vaccinations, while you're at it.

WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY: The Sahara Desert. These "campsites" include indoor plumbing and heating (yes, the desert gets cold at night). There is nothing like watching the sun illuminate the Sahara, just as a caravan of camels comes walking by.

TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: If you're transporting gifts in your luggage over the holidays, make sure you check the TSA and/or airline requirements on what's allowed. Christmas Crackers? Not allowed, because of their "explosive" mechanism. Double-dipped peanut butter butterscotch crackers are, though.

WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY (or Thursday, when you've been traveling): Lake Tahoe. Split between Nevada and California, both sides are lovely. Fresh pine scent, crisp mountain air, brilliant blue skies and water, and some really great hiking trails with amazing vistas. Oh, and sunsets!

WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY: Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with Roman ruins, followed by a luxury stay in Erfoud, where famous movies like "The Prince of Persia" and "The Mummy," were filmed.

TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: This one is a no-brainer. Check the weather report for both your departure and arrival cities on both ends of your trip before heading to the airport. Then plan accordingly. You might need another book/more clothes/a hotel number if it looks like you could be delayed due to bad weather in say, Buffalo, NY.

TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: Catch the holiday spirit with a night in a fancy hotel near your hometown. You don't have to travel far to feel like you're in another time zone with places like the Pfister Hotel just an hour away. The decor! The old world fireplace! The gold elevators and glasses of champagne upon check-in! A historic property in a city like Milwaukee (or Denver, or Chicago, or Boston) this time of year feels magical.

WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY: Fes, Morocco; one of the holiest cities in the world, and the center of government, philosophy, medicine and religion in Morocco. Also home to the oldest continuously-operating university in the world, started by A WOMAN in 859AD! Also, you HAVE to stay in a Riad, a traditional Moroccan house with an inner courtyard or garden.

TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals are good for travel, too. I recommend booking your next trip to Morocco. The High Atlas Mountains are spectacular.

WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY: Rabat, Morocco. Because the Flower Town Hotel & Spa has a CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN as part of its breakfast buffet! But also... the Chellah Necropolis (walled town with Roman ruins and medieval tombs), the eerie pillars in front of the unfinished Mausoleum of Mohammed V (the result of another king taking over before the last one got his monument built), and the Kasbah de Oudaias overlooking the Atlantic. I admit, I had The Clash "Rock the Kasbah" going through my head the whole time.

TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: When you're the one taking pictures, make sure you get some of you. So grateful to the fellow travelers I met in the Sahara who offered to verify my presence with a photo! The Islamic call to prayer five times a day meant we were alerted to sunrise and sunset hours... the perfect time for picture-taking.
