The Great Smoky Mountains rise along the Tennessee-North Carolina border and are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains. Just outside of Gatlinburg and a short drive from Dollywood, visitors can get the best of nature, moonshine, and theme parks all in one trip... a little something for everyone.
WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY: Fermentation Fest is an annual fall celebration of farming, fermented food, and art; taking place this October 7-8 in Reedsburg, WI. Just about everything is free and the art installations are AMAZING. Take a fall drive and learn about distilled spirits and their plant origins.
WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY - Chicago IL
Chicago is always dressed for the seasons, and makes for a great weekend trip if you need a quick get-away. Take the narrated boat cruise and learn about the skyline’s architecture, walk the Magnificent Mile with its gorgeous streetscapes and high-end shopping, participate in a walking food tour in Old Town, get your picture taken with the famous “bean” in Millenium Park, and admire all the festive décor. Finish with drinks at the top of Willis Tower.

The annual Heritage Trail Quilt Garden joins quilting, gardening and art into a one-of-a-kind event featuring one million vibrant blooms in gigantic quilt gardens. Surrounded by Amish farms, antique shops, and quaint bed and breakfasts, this Midwest destination is the perfect driving holiday for the cool days of fall, as my sister-in-law Linda and I discovered back in 2015. Door County, Wisconsin is the perfect fall getaway. The peninsula is located between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, so if you want to experience the one of the Great Lakes, an authentic Wisconsin fish boil, spectacular sunsets, scenic lighthouses, and cliffside shorelines, this is the place to be.
