We certainly have already had many interesting experiences since we started this adventure--99% of them positive including the learning curve as we go along LOL. We have had our home booked every weekend since July but it will definitely be less active in the wet winter months ahead. We make the trip over to Fort Bragg during the week, not every week but at least a couple times a month to do maintenance, etc., and of course enjoy the property and the area ourselves. We have a housekeeper but she works a full-time job as well, so if I'm there, I jump in to do a fair share of the work--wash all linens, towels, shower curtains, etc. Between the two of us, we thoroughly clean the home between guests. So this last week we were there. Thursday, I ran the vacuum throughout the house. Our housekeeper had already cleaned the bathrooms and was coming back to make up the beds and mop the floors the following morning which was Friday, our guests due to arrive in that late afternoon...So Friday evening our guests contacted me, they arrived and got into the house fine, all was well except dog or cat p**p on the living room rug!...pictured here! How the heck this could have happened??!!
We have our dog Cody who is with us pretty much wherever we go. He is not allowed in the living room or bedrooms, and I put throw blankets on the area rugs when he is in the house (he has long black fur that sheds constantly). Thursday morning when I began cleaning, he goes outside (he hates the vacuum cleaner) and then Jeff was using the leaf blower (Cody also hates the leaf blower), so Cody went in the back seat of our truck where he stayed until we left to go home. Now mind you, Cody has never had an accident indoors and he is a very large dog with very large p**ps. So with all that said, Cody is not a suspect. Now except for Cody, we have a "no pet policy" for our guests. I know I thoroughly cleaned the living room myself and told my housekeeper she didn't need to go over (we're a great tag-team).
So needless to say, when I received this picture, I was shocked and nauseous because I know how hard I worked as well as my housekeeper worked, so how could this happen? Our business depends upon ratings on the reservation sites, OMG! Our guests were gracious, cleaned it up, but the situation was so embarrassing. Our only explanation is that when our housekeeper mopped the floors, she opened the front doors to help circulate air to dry them quickly while she worked outside on the back deck and a neighbor's renegade dog came in and marked territory? Just totally baffled... we will be asking our neighbors this week if they saw anything as they try to keep an eye on things for us...
