ICON OF THE SEAS 🚢. It’s no secret that I’m a smallship girl. In fact I had been dreading this trip on a ship full of over 7500 guests 😳😆🤦‍♀️. 🙌Well, massive kudos 🙌to Royal Caribbean International and the Icon team and staff. From start to finish, the cruise was nothing short of excellent 🤩. It took just 10 minutes to board (WOW!!) and the same to disembark. Everything ran as smooth as silk. Whoever is in charge of operations needs a massive congratulations for how everything on board was so well run. Never any lines anywhere.
🌴The escalators to disembark at ports we visited made things so quick and easy! Truly remarkable.
🩵 The elevators are all run on AI technology so you push a keypad with your intended deck and it will tell you which elevator to go to for the fastest direct ride. Super efficient.!
🏝️The food was outstanding. We had lobster 🦞 (included!) 3 different times. There was a great selection at each meal and even the buffet (which I normally despise!) was fresh with a great selection - even expensive items like clams, mussels, cherries, 🍒, calamari, and more. There was always a place to sit too which was a nice surprise. Some new additions to the usual restaurants were the Aquadome market with creperie, Mac and cheese bar; Greek food; Asian food; salad,s and more.
Hot tip: if you go to breakfast in the main dining room, you will get a complimentary mimosa every day!
😎The entertainment onboard from the Broadway-style Wizard of Oz to the Aquashow (daredevil diving; synchronized swimming and more); the ice skating show (yep, there’s an ice-skating rink onboard!); the outstanding Journey cover band; the incredible orchestra performances and more. All were top-notch notch with incredible special effects, spectacular production, and costumes.
🏖️The rooms were lovely and bright with a ton of storage space and the beds were soooo comfortable with a lovely duvet and nice sheets (yes, I notice that stuff lol).
😍The staff were all fabulous and always had a smile.
🚢The layout of the ship was just so easy to navigate. All of the main bars (and there were many, each offering different entertainment from pub singers to pianists to karaoke to jazz) were all located in the same area so it was easy to move between them. All of the decks had corridors or walkways from one end to the other, so it was easy to get around without ever getting lost or stuck at a dead end. As massive as the ship was it was just so easy to find everything!
🏖️The pool areas were huge and the adults-only section was at the back of the ship with ian nfinity pool and large jacuzzis. Very nice! 🚢🙌
🤩For families, there is just a never-ending list of activities and spaces to enjoy. Favorite things I noticed were a beautiful Daddy-Daughter dance; separate kids, teen and adult Karaoke 🎤 ; huge areas for kids of different ages to play indoors and outdoors; massive water park; mommy and me cocktail bar 🥂🍾 and bedtime stories in the family zone.
🏝️ The whole ship was so light and bright and airy with huge windows and public spaces that were so bright and open. It made the ship feel even bigger than it was! Our favorite areas were the Pearl café hit the top of the huge giant pearl off the Royal Promenade and the huge bar and comfy spaces seating area at the very front of the ship in front of the Aquadome Theatre. In fact, there were comfy seating areas and nooks and crannies all over the ship, which were wonderful.
👍 Another particular favorite was the walking and running track which went around the entire ship on deck five. 2.4 laps is a mile so it was very easy to get in a really good long workout. We walked around 4 miles a day on the track and one of our group even ran 8 miles a couple of times! The gym was also excellent with lots of equipment on two levels.
Overall, everyone in our group had an amazing time and loved their experience on the Icon. Despite my initial reservations, I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. (I know many of my fellow travel agents and clients will be shocked to hear me say that 😆🤣🤣). I’m sure I’ve missed out a ton of information here. The Icon currently runs seven night itineraries out of Miami, alternating between eastern and Western Caribbean. 🌴🚢🏖️🥂🙌🍾😎🙏🌴☀️🩵. As far as big ship cruising goes this one is five star for sure! ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
