Trafficking victims can and do come from all racial and ethnic groups. In a 2013 study by Portland State University, researchers analyzed cases of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in the Portland Metro Area from 2009 through 2013. They found that 27.1% of victims were African American, while African Americans made up only 5.8% of the county’s population.

The more we know about what human trafficking really looks like, the better we’ll be able to recognize a victim and make the call. Race does play a role.
