We are so happy to hear” We’ll be back”! A trip to either Cape Coral or Fort Myers Beach, means at least one visit to Doc Ford’s. Yucatán shrimp, Redfish bowl, dry rubbed ribeye, Dark & Stormy…the favorites list is growing!

Lots of work to do at our Ft. Myers Beach location, but she’s still standing! We don’t know a timeframe yet, but we will be back open, come hell or high water! 😉 🙌💪

I apologize for the delay in updating since Hurricane Ian visited our properties. We were and are all safe in Missouri! We were hoping for more news by now, but want to share what we know.
The Fort Myers Beach condo building is still standing! Five families rode out the storm and survived! Our unit was dry and intact after the storm. There was at least 9 feet of water under the building and on the parking lot. There is damage to the lobby, the mechanical room, all the stairwell doors and the fencing. The pool house is gone along with all the houses on the street next to us, on Cottage Ave. An engineer is going to inspect the doorways and the stairs, hopefully today, to determine if it is safe to enter the building. We are grateful that over the years, our condo association board has worked very hard to keep the building aligned with best practices for hurricane protection. As soon as a structural engineer gives an all clear, work will begin! We’ll let you know!

This is one of the pictures sent from the Busch House! Only minor damage, torn screen. boat lift canvas top gone, & a few limbs down. The power and water has been restored. We have not heard from Oscar & Olivia! Those kids, they don’t write, they don’t call! We’ve heard from others in the Cape that their owls fared very well, so we have high hopes.
Think you all for your thoughts and prayers. We have been incredibly fortunate. Please continue to remember SW Florida residents. Many have lost so much, including their lives.

Mom's -

Just at the end of our block is Mom's "Home of the Original Fort Myers Cinnamon Roll". So of course you gotta try the cinnamon roll when you go! They also serve wonderful breakfast sandwiches, bakery treats, and biscuits & gravy. (but Jim has spoiled me on that last one). I would be remiss if i didn't mention the variety of fresh squeezed juices that you can mix. (You can see the juicer contraption and menu behind Mom herself in the pic below.) Pro tip: take your own vodka and have the best fresh greyhound or screwdriver on earth.

I always get the roll, iced (duh), and I ask for one of the middle ones so that it's ooey and gooey and delicious . And it ALWAYS is 😍... But you don't just go to Mom's for the food - you go for the experience. You go for Mom herself. But she's not the warm and fuzzy "Mom" you're thinking of - she's full of bossiness and risque jokes and ribald stories. She yells at and loves on her staff at the link of an eye. I've never been there when there wasn't a line out the door - but it moves quickly and it's worth the wait.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the big kicker here. She's directly across the street from Heavenly Biscuit. Her biggest competitor in the Fort Myers Beach Cinnamon Roll world. And there's a story there - and she'll be HAPPY to share it with you. It involves her ex-husband, alleged infidelity, and that you-know-what (hint: think of what you might call someone that gets paid for something other than baking cinnamon rolls) across the street.

WE HAVE BABIES! Jim@and I returned to The Busch House late last night, and Jim woke me up this morning to tell me Oscar and Olivia had babies while we were gone! O&O are the burrowing owls that have taken up resident in The Busch House front yard. Working on names now…

WE HAVE BABIES! Jim and I just returned to The Busch House late last night, and Jim woke me this morning with the news that Oscar and Olivia had three babies while we were gone! You can hear Jim talking to Mom on the phone in the background making fun of me 🙄, ignore that. (Oscar and Olivia are the burrowing owls that have taken up residence in the front yard of The Busch House.)

Gorgeous! Jim and I were just standing about chest deep in the water (waist deep for him) and a whole group (school? herd? gaggle) of rays swam right through is. It was so amazing!
