Welcome to the Gwynne Cottage – a slice of history with modern amenities! From the moment you drive up to the Gwynne Cottage you get a nostalgic feeling like you stepped back in time. The Gwynne Cottage is a charming circa 1912 home that was built by the family of Col. Gwynne, a prominent community leader and education advocate in Fort Myers. Gwynne was responsible for funding Fort Myers’ first mo
dern school which is named after him – The Colonel Andrew D. Although the Gwynne Cottage is over 100 years old, it was meticulously remodeled in 2022 to include modern features while restoring and maintaining key historic features such as vintage hardwood floors, stained glass, original doors/door k***s, and tongue and groove wood walls. The Gwynne Cottage is located steps from the Historic Downtown Fort Myers River District - a hidden gem on the waterfront that creatively melds its rich history with its unique and alluring present to deliver an unrivaled urban destination. The exterior of the house was recently painted white with black trim accents to give it a timeless look. The front porch has a cozy seating area with area rugs and rocking chairs that overlook the front garden, which was designed to lure butterflies. The porch is a great place to just relax, read a book, have a cocktail, or just gaze at the magnificent butterflies the garden attracts. The Gwynne Cottage has an open split-floor plan that was professionally decorated with a mid-century modern vibe. The furnishings are top notch, and no expenses were spared! The Gwynne Cottage has hardwood flooring throughout that is original to the home and was painstakingly restored. When you walk in the front door you step right into the living room with an office to the left. The living room has a large deep, comfy sofa, two chairs for extra seating, a Smart TV, and a mini library wall surrounding an antique stained-glass window. It also has artwork that provides a glimpse into what 1st Street (just steps from the Gwynne Cottage) looked like in the 1930s. The home office is equipped with a desk, chair, and seating area making it perfect for those who need to work remotely. The office also has a feature wall highlighting the Gwynne family history that pays homage to its original owner in the 1900s. Adjacent to the living room is the dining room which has a pass-through window to the working kitchen. The dining area has a table with sofa-bench style seating and chairs that can accommodate up to 8 people. The dining room also has a buffet table and hanging above it a unique piece of artwork - a laser engraved map of Ft. Myers that pinpoints the Gwynne Cottage’s location. The kitchen was totally renovated in 2022 with high-end stainless-steel appliances, farm sink and a granite countertop with a leathered finish. The kitchen is fully equipped with dinnerware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, blender, and basic pantry items. The master bedroom, located in the front of the house, has a queen size bed, walk-in closet, and en suite bath. The second bedroom, located in the back of the house has two twin beds and a full bathroom right next to it. Right off the kitchen is a door that leads to the rear porch and backyard. The covered porch is where you will find the washer and dryer in a separate enclosed room to protect them from the elements. The backyard is large and is surrounded by 80-year-old mango trees that produce the most delicious Haden mangos in season (mid-May – June). The fenced, sodded backyard yard has a circular fire pit area with Adirondack chairs, covered dining area, gas BBQ, and is illuminated with Edison lights. There is also an air-conditioned storage room on the side of the house that contains games, bicycles, beach chairs, and a high-top desk with stools if work privacy is needed. The house is equipped with high-speed internet, Smart TVs, easy to use keyless entry doors, AC, and heating. There is uncovered parking on the side of the house that can accommodate up to three (3) cars.
