The perfect sailing boat
J One was launched as Magic Carpet in 1997, and is the boat of “the start”.
She is the confirmation that Wally visionary approach was not a foolish idea. She is Wally’s first signed contract, and also the encounter with the first client, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, who would become one of the most loyal ambassadors of the Wally spirit.
Beyond what she represents for Wally, Magic Carpet / J One is the summa of the perfect sailing boat.
After the first experiences with the 105-footer ketch Wallygator and the 80-footer Genie of the Lamp, Wally took advantage of this opportunity to assess the pluses and minuses of the first two yachts and continue the evolution of the Wally revolution by creating, indeed, the perfect sailing boat. .
The first sea-trials revealed her to be perfectly balanced and very fast all round, as well as equipped with all of the essential amenities and comfort of a yacht of this category.
She fulfilled the helmsman’s dreams: she was quick and easily responsive to any performance feat I asked of her, and… with two fingers!
To really understand the successful outcome of this project, it’s enough to mention that she still sports the original mast and she is still one of the fastest yachts on the racing circuit! .
This legendary yacht has also had the privilege to have had only two owners, both truly passionate and caring, who kept her at her highest level of performance from all points of view.
Thanks to them, Magic Carpet / J One has represented innovation and the Wally spirit tradition for over 20 years, counting many victories on the race courses as well as fun and comfortable family cruises.
She is the pinnacle of the original and timeless Wally motto: Fast and Easy.

The Wally Class marked the birth of the racing superyachts as we know now, showing the way to the rest of the industry.
Our passion for the sailing competition dates back to 1999 when large boat racing was prerogative of the maxi racers, exclusively developed for this purpose but on the brink of extinction.
We had eight yachts on the water, who had already successfully competed in the most important Mediterranean regattas (Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Nioulargue, Giraglia) exploiting their cruiser-racer souls.
The owners though were asking for more technical courses and more control over the races.
It was time to create the ad hoc organisation for the regattas of our boats: we founded the Wally Class to supervise the racing activity suitable to the Wallys.
With such an organised class, we succeeded in having at the events a separate division with its own standings and rating system, as well as the full control over the selection of the courses.
The owner-driving rule is a pillar since the beginning, encouraging the owners to experience in person the pleasure of the competition, supported by the world’s top sailors required to handle such large and demanding boats achieving the best performance while ensuring maximum safety.
Above all, the Wally Class is born from the racing owners requirements. That is why in over 20 years we achieved so many goals: the evolution of the rating system, the selection of the racing locations, the choice of the courses.
We also developed a unique service that provides in a dedicated App both the live standings at each mark, and the data of each leg of each boat enabling the teams to analyse their performance, like it in F1 car racing.
