What is it about those tiny, air-filled plastic bubbles that makes them SO satisfying to pop?! When a shipped item arrives at the door wrapped in bubble wrap, it’s usually more exciting to pop than it is to open the parcel.

Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day is for all the fans of this therapeutic packaging. Originally created as a way to protect fragile items during transit, bubble wrap is also prized for its fun and oh-so-compelling popability.

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

On April 8, 1968, former U.S. Rep. John Conyers introduced legislation to create a federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. just four days after the civil rights leader’s assassination.

However, it wasn’t until 1986 that we officially celebrated this national holiday recognizing King’s January 15th birthday.

Since then, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed each year on the third Monday of January. It is the only federal holiday that is “designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer and improve their communities,” according to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Take some time to honor Dr. King’s legacy and give back to your community in whatever way you can!
