Did you know that lionfish are not just stunning to look at but also one of the most invasive species in Florida? These spiny beauties have made their way into Destin's waters, and while they’re fascinating, they pose a big threat to our local marine ecosystem.

👉 Why Are Lionfish a Problem?
Lionfish are native to the Indo-Pacific, but thanks to accidental introductions, they’ve invaded the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. These fish are voracious predators, consuming juvenile reef fish that are vital for our marine ecosystem. They reproduce rapidly, with one female laying up to 2 million eggs a year! Unfortunately, they have no natural predators in our waters, making them a serious pest.

Lionfish have 18 venomous spines! While their sting isn’t deadly to humans, it can be extremely painful.
They’re known for their gliding movement and vibrant red, brown, and white stripes, making them one of the most recognizable fish in the sea.
