Getting ready to do the tropical diving thing with my lovely new bride (who is making great strides in refining her dive skill set) and had to look at previous pics to re-familiarize with salt water diving...The Great Lakes and Florida caves are salt-free so that will be a change.

This is a shot of my good friend Matt as we were diving open-circuit in Roatan. The wreck is the Aguila and its pretty slick. Would have been cooler on CCR and to explore the corridors but, we take what we can get and enjoy it regardless.

While looking at images of a Missouri trip, I thought I'd share some images of a little known gem called Mine LaMotte in Madison.

The mine started around 1717 and lead used during the Civil War came from this mine. It has a long history and is a patchwork of extensive tunnels. Every tunnel you explore has remnants of when the mine was a working mine. Some of the items you will see are ore carts, workers toolboxes, light bulbs, pumps, etc. Every turn you are greeted by something else.

While it is an amazing time capsule of a dive. If you decide to dive this location, you will need to bring quite a number of cookies and line arrows it is also very cold so dry gloves are also recommended.

The first shot is of the outside of the mine with the entrance towards the back left. The next couple shots are of Ray as we explore the numerous mine shafts. The next is one of my many 3-D cookies I made and never stopped making...and the last is the obligatory selfie shot no dive story is complete without.

Started the evening back out at the covered bridge north of my house to practice light painting one of my cars. Got the halo effect figured out with my drone, just had to dodge the tree, haven't hit a single tree in seven years of flying drones, didn't want to start last night.
I roll up and see a car at the corner of the lot. Initially I think it is abandoned and start setting up the tripod and the lights set up. I hear noises coming from the car and after realizing it was merely teenagers hot and heavy in the middle of date night, I went on with my business as they went on with theirs...regardless of how it turned out for them...there was a light show.

It was a cool evening with no wind, which was refreshing for a change. Since I was out driving around to clear my head I thought I would make a couple stops and work a bit more on the light painting.

This is taken with the downtown courthouse in the background. 3 GVM light tubes (which the skate boarders thought were light sabers) Mavic 2Air in POI mode doing a fairly fast rotation and Canon 5DMKIV with 24-70 lens. 20 shutter in Bulb mode.

Selfie... Went to the quarry today to try out my new DiveX Black Tip Tech. I had to create a new attachment to the camera mount because there wasn't the clearance needed with an 8"dome. With that done I wanted to see how it would compare to all the other scooters I've owned.
The lack of weight is a big plus. The one thing I need to get accustomed to is the 2sec delay in spooling up the prop. That will take some time as well as getting use to the double/single pull for speed control. I was impressed as I went through the speeds as I was skeptical given a huge camera which is a sail, CCR, two sidemount bailout bottles...lots of drag and equipment to pull through the water. I shot video and kept near structures so that I can review the various speeds I cycled through. Felt like a meat-popsicle, even with a heated vest so I turned around after an hour...
Of course no scooter dive is complete without a "selfie" to prove it actually happened.

This is an interesting shot of my friend Peter. The effort to capture this is at a ludicrous level. For starters I took this at Ginnie Springs in High Springs Florida. We are in one of the entrances of the cave system that resembles a 90' chimney with a width of around 4' in areas and is called "Devils Ear." It opens up at the bottom into a gorgeous section called "The Gallery"

The flow is so strong you feel like a hood ornament on a freight train heading in. I still remember my first dive there three decades ago. I took a small rock and let it go curious as to what it would do. Instead of sinking, it was shot upward...tremendous amount of effort...or skill...to merely get into the cave...but I digress.
This image has me upside-down while Peter is heading right at me and straight down the chimney. I'm on my rebreather and the flow is trying to rip my mask off and my breathing loop out of my mouth. It is also turning my camera and lights into a sail thus I'm trying not to loose my grip on my stuff...photography shouldn't require this much effort...grin.

The flow is so great that Peter is pretty much hanging in place, quite impressive. The colorful backdrop is from the tannin's (leaves and other material breaking down) and timing the sun to be directly over the entrance creates an aesthetic of fire. Thus rather appropriate for a system called "Devils Cave."

One of my favorite cave images to capture as there are a number of logistics that must align for it to turn out.

A shot of Jeremy Nussbaum lighting up the lifeboat on the Windiate. The second image is as we were swimming around her stern to illuminate the wheel and Jeremy Bannister is near the center mast.

If anyone is interested in diving these wrecks, contact Jeremy Bannister as he has already started to put together next years trip. Michelle and I (and the dogs) will be there next year. Already counting down the days and coming up with some unique ideas for images.

Spent the day at Gilboa quarry working on a new photogrammetry subject... the boat north of the cruiser on the deep side. Thought I would also try out using LightDude video lights instead of strobes...and they worked great. I'm going to explore video light usage for photogrammetry further because of how surprised I was at how the 200 images turned out...3D model forthcoming.
What really helped save the day was the LightDude heater controller as my hands were extremely cold after shooting the boat for just over an hour ...but not my core.
On another note, if you were not aware, Gilboa was recently sold and Andy Silverman is running the show now. The vibe has certainly changed for the positive and there are a number of ambitious and well needed upgrades taking place. You should check it out if you've been away.
