Charleston & Savannah
Day 6

We departed our beautiful hotel, excitement bubbling as we set off for the Kazoobie Kazoo Factory. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by an amazing staff who welcomed us with open arms. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they guided us through the fascinating history of kazoos and assorted whistles.
The high-energy employees made the manufacturing process come alive, showing us each step with such fun and flair. We even got to make our own kazoos! The highlight was when we all played a cheerful rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” together. The bus filled with the joyful sounds of our kazoos, creating a memory we would cherish forever.
Before leaving, we couldn’t resist purchasing various sound-making apparatuses. The laughter and fun we had at the kazoo factory were unforgettable.
Next, we headed to Beaufort, SC, a charming little southern town, for lunch. The quaint streets and warm hospitality made our meal even more enjoyable.
Our final destination for the day was Cornelius, NC. As we journeyed there, we watched comedian Jeanne Robertson. Her humor and wit had us laughing out loud, making the drive fly by with ease.
It was a day full of laughter, a few kazoo t***s here and there, and then more laughter! We felt thankful, grateful, and most certainly blessed to travel this great country.

Day 5- Charleston & Savannah

After a delightful breakfast at our beautiful hotel, we set off for the Savannah History Museum. The museum took us on an incredible journey through time, from the earliest days of Savannah to the present. Our docent, brimming with knowledge, shared many fascinating stories that brought the exhibits to life.
Next on our list was a tour of the squares of Savannah. Each square was uniquely named and beautifully landscaped, offering a serene and picturesque setting. As we wandered through the squares, we soon came upon The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. This historic basilica, with its stunning stained glass windows, grand organ, and intricate details, made us stop and take it all in. The beauty and tranquility of the cathedral left us in awe.
With our spirits lifted, it was time for lunch and some free time to shop. We had a delightful time scouting out places for lunch and indulging in cookies, pralines, and assorted sweet treats from local stores. A stop at Paula Deen’s restaurant revealed one of her sons working there, and he couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming.
Back on our beautiful black bus, we headed to the Davenport House for a tour. The historic home was filled with charm and history, giving us a glimpse into Savannah’s past. Our adventure continued with an Atlantic Ocean Lowcountry tour out to Tybee Island. Among the many eye-catching sights was a grand lighthouse with 175 steps, which some of us bravely climbed to the top. The view from the top was breathtaking and well worth the effort.
As the day turned to evening, we left Tybee Island and headed to River House Seafood for dinner. The meal was delicious, and the pecan pie was the best we’ve ever had. But our day wasn’t over yet. One more excursion awaited us: the Grave Encounters Trolley Tour. We had a spooktacular time exploring the haunted history of Savannah, filled with chills and thrills.
Finally, we returned to our hotel, feeling full of gratitude and… tired. It had been a day filled with history, beauty, laughter, and adventure. We went to bed with hearts full of wonderful memories and dreams of more adventures to come.

Biltmore Christmas 2024:
Day 4
Asheville, North Carolina, will always hold a tender place in our hearts. We experienced the welcome hospitality of this community and the beauty that it has to offer in the aftermath of hurricane Helene.
As this journey came to a close, we shared stories of our "big give" encounters. We took time to debrief our experiences together, noticing that many had the same qualities: recipients so gratefully offering to pass on gifts to others in need, quickly forming emotional tears, and hugs. Lots of hugs. People were not shy about their joy in our visit and their deep desire to return to some normalcy.
Last day travel cements our friendships with music, movies, snacks, the final exam, along with other Land Cruise traditions.
We are all so grateful to have experienced this memorable tour!

Day 4- Charleston & Savannah

We departed our hotel early in the morning, filled with excitement for the adventures ahead. Our first destination was the majestic Angel Oak Tree, a living testament to nature’s grandeur. Standing over 400 years old, 65 feet tall, and with a diameter of 31.5 feet, the tree left us in awe of its sheer size and beauty. We spent some time marveling at its ancient branches, feeling a deep connection to the history it embodied.
Our journey continued as we made our way to The Charleston Tea Plantation. The experience was nothing short of tea-riffic! We were treated to a wealth of information about the tea-making process, and there were plenty of laughs along the way. Lunch at the plantation was delightful, and we couldn’t resist visiting the gift shop to pick out our favorite flavors of tea to take home.
After our Tea time was over, it was time to bid farewell to our guide, John. His dry humor and vast knowledge had made the tour unforgettable, and we were sad to see him go. But onward we must go, for Savannah, GA, awaited us.
Upon arriving at the DoubleTree, we were greeted with warm smiles and ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookies. The kind and courteous staff made us feel right at home. After freshening up, we boarded our beautiful black bus, where we met our new guide, Katherine. She welcomed us warmly and began pointing out local spots and points of interest as we made our way to Lady and Sons, a renowned Paula Deen restaurant.
The short drive was filled with tidbits about Savannah, and soon we arrived at the restaurant. The family-style meal was satisfying and delicious, a perfect end to a day of exploration. After dinner, we had the option to either board the coach or take a leisurely stroll back to the hotel. Some of us chose to walk, enjoying the cool evening air and the charming streets of Savannah.
As we settled into our “home” for the next two nights, we reflected on the day’s events. It had been a fabulous day filled with education, beauty, laughter, and friends. We felt truly blessed to have shared these moments together.

Day 3 - Charleston & Savannah

The day began with a visit to the historic Middleton Place Plantation. The grounds were breathtaking, impeccably groomed, and rich in history dating back to the 1700s.
As we wandered through the plantation, we marveled at the beauty of the rice fields, though we couldn't help but think about the backbreaking work that went into cultivating them.
Our next stop was the bustling Old City Market. Our guide, John, was a wealth of information, offering us a fantastic selection of places to eat lunch, scenic walks to take, and unique items to purchase, like the beautiful sweetgrass baskets. Due to some unexpected road construction we could not take our beautiful black bus south of Broad.
We had to get creative with our plans.
Fortunately, John, who also drives the local Grayline mini bus, split us into two groups and gave us an excellent tour of The Battery, South of Broad, Rainbow Row, and many other charming spots. The tour was nothing short of amazing.
After the tour, we had just enough time to freshen up before our next adventure. We boarded the Spirit of Carolina for a dinner cruise. The night was perfect, with delicious food, wonderful service, and ideal weather it was a magical way to end our day.
With satisfied tummies and full hearts, we are snuggled into bed feeling thankful, grateful and blessed.

Biltmore Christmas 2024:
Day 2
It was a LANDMARK Land Cruise day beginning with a buffet breakfast with a view of the mountains in the BEAUTIFUL dining room.
An unexpected surprise awaited us as we pulled in front of the Biltmore Mansion. A small staff of people were there to greet us and gave us a completely private tour of the Biltmore Mansion. No other people. No crowds. Just us! It was indeed so special! Our docents were fabulous answering all our questions and giving us an exclusive tour. And most of all they were so delighted we were there with them! To say it was a memorable morning is an understatement.
We enjoyed lunch and shopping on our own at Antler Hill Village and a leisurely afternoon on the patios of the Inn on Biltmore Estate.
It was a sweet moment to present our Land Cruise gift to a staff member of the Biltmore who had lost her home and car in hurricane Helene.
Our evening was topped off with a delicious dinner at the Stable Cafe followed by a Candlelight Tour of the Biltmore Mansion. We saw it in a whole different light!
Everywhere we went, the employees welcomed us and told us how happy they were to host us. They asked us to send our friends as Asheville needs an economic boost for the people living and working here.
How blessed we were today. We retire to our cozy rooms with grateful hearts.

Day 2- Charleston & Savannah
The morning sun peeked over the horizon as we departed from Huntersville, NC, filled with excitement for the journey ahead. Our final destination was the charming city of Charleston, SC, but first, a stop awaited in Summerville, NC.
It was lunchtime, and some of us chose to eat at Chick Fil A. If your name was Robin you were treated like royalty. Robin, beaming with joy, was indeed treated like a queen, making her meal even more memorable.
With satisfied appetites, we continued our journey to the Charleston Visitors Center. This building was a treasure trove of local crafts and souvenirs, perfect for picking up a few mementos.
Soon, our guide John arrived, and it was time to embark on a tour of Charleston. Boarding the bus, we felt a sense of anticipation. John’s knowledge and passion for the town’s rich history brought each story to life. We wandered through quaint streets, admired historic buildings, and soaked in the charm that Charleston is known for.
As the tour concluded, we headed to the Springhill Suites to check in and freshen up. The hotel provided a comfortable respite, allowing us to relax and prepare for the evening ahead. Dinner was at the Charleston Crab House, a lively restaurant perched on the water’s edge. The food was wonderful , the service impeccable, and the laughter shared around the table was the perfect end to a perfect day.
One more stop before heading back to the hotel. The 35th James Island Park Christmas light display. What a spectacular sight to put us in the mood for Christmas.
Reflecting on the day, we felt a deep sense of gratitude. It had been a day filled with fun, fellowship, and the joy of new experiences. As we settled in for the night, we couldn’t help but feel thankful, grateful, and blessed for the wonderful start to our vacation.

Biltmore Christmas 2024: Day 1
A beautiful moonrise greeted us as we wound our way through the magical North Carolina night sky to our 4 star Inn on Biltmore Estate.
We arrived in time to have a nightcap on a beautiful travel day which included Christmas music, the movie, Home Alone, Ed's True and False pretest, Chocolate!, Happy Hour with wine, cheese and crackers, a "get smart" session with Professor Ed on the Vanderbilt Family and Estate and a lot of comraderie and laughter.
We received a warm welcome at the Inn and "so glad you are here" greetings!
Some of us already began our mission to spread joy by passing out cards from our "Big Give" to the residents of Asheville. Over 160 cards which included cash or gift cards were collected from our amazing Land Cruise travelers to bless some of the folks here in Asheville.
The Inn on Biltmore Estate did not incur any damage from hurricane Helene and we are SO blessed to to be the first bus tour they have welcomed back!

Day 1 -Charleston and Savannah

The day began with a sense of excitement and anticipation as we departed the bustling port, alive with the energy of two buses ready to embark on their journeys. As we traveled, the horizon greeted us with a breathtaking sunrise, filling us with renewed hope and setting a positive tone for the day ahead.
The warmth of the sun brought the temperature up quickly and soon we caught sight of the majestic Capitol Building in West Virginia, its golden dome glistening in the sunlight.
Our spirits were further lifted when we arrived at the Rocky Gap Virginia Welcome Center, where we were treated to delicious homemade cookies. A big thank you to Linda Z. for her kindness and hospitality.
After a long day of travel, we finally arrived at our Hampton Inn in Huntersville, NC. The day concluded with a delightful pizza party, where laughter and stories were shared, creating memories that would last a lifetime. As the night drew to a close, we all said our goodnights, feeling blessed and grateful for the day’s experiences.
Night, night. God bless.
