Steve and Shane came for a catfish trip under some pretty tough conditions, full moon, not a lick of wind at all and super high barometric pressure with clear bluebird skies. We found big piles of fish in a bunch of places buried down on the mud and not wanting to eat. You basically had to force-feed them and knock them right on the forehead to get them to bite and then it was a super light bite. It took a bit to get them coached up and catching fish but once they got the hang of it they caught a really nice mess of fish but I had to really hustle to keep them in fish that would bite.

Layman brought his son-in-law and Grandson for some trophy catfish action to put his grandson on a big fish. The wind was howling so we had to get strategic on where we fished but we got the young man on two new personal bests and had another MONSTA come unbuttoned on us (our first big bite). There's nothing like being trash-talked by a nine-year-old when a fish comes off! :)

Charles joined me last week for a half-day trip. He's been fishing a while but new to catfishing so he wanted to catch some fish and learn how to find and catch catfish this time of year. We had tough conditions with no wind, bluebird skies, and super high barometric pressure but he caught his limit of fish in short order and we spent a bunch of time catch and release fishing. We fished slow focusing on quality and teaching him how to pattern winter fish. We took the last hour of the trip and went looking for a MONSTA, had a couple of good big fish bites but didn't connect.

👉 Wrapping Up 2024 with Gratitude and Laughs! 👈

As we cast the last lines of 2024 (and untangle the last fishing reels), I want to take a moment to THANK YOU—the incredible folks who made this year unforgettable for North Texas Catfish Guide Service.

From first-timers reeling in their very first catch to the loyal friends who keep coming back for more, every trip reminded me how lucky I am to do what I love with the best customers around. Whether we were swapping fish tales, cracking jokes, or debating who lost more fish (spoiler: it’s definitely not the guide!), you all made this year one for the books.

This year brought plenty of big fish, even bigger laughs, and some moments I’ll never forget—like the time someone swore their rod was snagged on a log… until it started swimming away, or those persistent warriors among you who fought snags like they were trophy catches. My time with CAST For Kids, wounded warriors and some old friends I had not seen in a while all brought fond memories.

2024 wasn’t without its challenges. My family and I faced some deeply personal struggles with my father’s health, and in October, I lost him. He was my biggest supporter. He carried magazines I was featured in with him everywhere he went and told EVERYONE that would listen about my adventrues. The day he passed, I was on the water with clients, doing what I love. It was a reminder that life keeps moving forward, even in the toughest moments. Being out there fishing with you all gave me a sense of normalcy and comfort when I needed it most, and for that, I’ll forever be grateful.

Your continued support—whether booking a trip, sharing a post, or just cheering us on—means the world to me and my family. You keep the boat afloat, the lines tight, and the dream alive, even when life throws its toughest curveballs. The Beckners joined me for my last trip of 2024 for a trophy catfish trip. We caught some a nice mess of box fish and released a few big fish in the teens and then this MONSTA took off like a banshee. It was a heck of a fight and put on a big show in the warm water (fishing in 85 degree weather in December is nuts). This young lady landed this big blue cat like a boss! Great way to put a bow on the 2024 fishing!

Rick brought a crew for a half-day catfish trip, we had to start late in the day because of the big rain that rolled in that morning but as soon as the rain broke and the lightning cleared we headed out. We got into fish at the first stop and as soon as they got the hang of the hookset and the really light high-pressure bite it was WHACK EM AND STACK EM® time and they loaded the boat with a big mess of blues and channels and released multiple overs and the overall quality of the fish was excellent.

🔥 FORT WORTH TX FISHING GUIDE 🔥

I took a few days off for Christmas and got back after it on Friday. The Ehinger family joined me for a half-day catfish trip. We had a ton of rain the day prior and a really warm night and I knew the fish would make some big moves. We figured out a pattern and presentation pretty quick and once they got the hang of the hookset it was WHACK EM AND STACK EM® time. They loaded the boat with a big box of blue and channel catfish and we released multiple overs including a nice 20 pound blue cat and headed in just a few fish shy of their limit (we easily limited out with the overs).

Ron and his brother joined me for a half-day catfish trip, the warm weather the past few days has scattered the fish some so I had to do a little searching but once we located them it was WHACK EM AND STACK EM® time. They caught their 50 fish limit and we released 7 overs between 9 and 13 pounds.

The Grigsby's joined me for a trophy catfish trip. We had no wind and then light and variable wind with clear skies and high pressure so we had to work for the fish. Big fish of the day was 26.5 pounds. We had a few in the teens and about a dozen box fish from 3-6 lbs. When the wind blew the fish bit and it slowed down when it quit, so I had to hustle but we got it done and got everyone on good fish.

Garrett and his buddy joined me for a catfish trip. We came out of the gate hot and caught several big box fish and then the wind died on us and along came the struggle bus. We knocked fish in the head all morning long and no matter what I tried they didn't want to eat. I was getting pretty frustrated and then we had a MONSTER takedown that came off the hook about 1/3 of the way in. I made that BIG MOVE and switched up patterns and we finally hooked into one in the low teens. Not what I was hoping for but it was a new personal best for Garrett and certainly a great fish in such tough conditions.

William was down visiting from California. He had a hunting trip planned, and it got canceled, so he called to do some catfishing. He caught his 25 fish limit in short order and we kept fishing and threw back at least that many more until he gave up and said he couldn't catch any more. We also released a blue catfish in the teens and not one, not two, BUT THREE channel catfish that were within an ounce or two of the lake record. I'm closing in on it and going to bust it sooner or later!

Had a couple of business associates from the tackle side of things on the boat for some on-the-water education on catching catfish and it was a WHACK EM AND STACK EM® time. We had super high barometric pressure and no wind for most of the trip so we had to make some adjustments and it was a super light bite but once they got the hang of it then WHACK EM AND STACK EM® time was in full effect. They loaded the boat with catfish and caught a good mess of overs that we released.
