Happy National Beer Day! Cheers!! 🍻
It's National Beer Day! We may be best known for Bourbon but there’s quite the rich history of brewing in Kentucky. Louisville was one of the top brewing cities in America before Prohibition. Operating from 1905 to 1978, Falls City Brewing Company was probably Louisville’s most well-known brewery, but other breweries like Oertel and Fehr’s added to Kentucky’s historical brewing roots (all names which have been revived in recent years).
Celebrate National Beer Day at a KY Proud brewery (responsibly, of course). To learn more and to help plan your next visit to one of Kentucky’s wineries and breweries this weekend, visit drink-ky.com. 🍻

Ever tried mead? Known as the nectar of the gods by ancient Greeks, meade has been around a really long time but is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Often called honey wine, meade (made with honey, water, and yeast) is really in a category of its own. It's also very diverse and can be still, sparkling, dry, sweet, flavored with fruit or other ingredients, and even made into spritzers or mead slushies. 😋 🍯

Cheers! It’s National Red Wine Day! Wine has been produced for thousands of years. For the ancient Egyptians, red wine was associated with blood and was used by both the Greeks to celebrate Dionysus and the Romans in their Bacchanalia.
And get this: The foundation of America’s wine industry is largely planted in Kentucky. America’s commercial wine industry was born in Kentucky in 1798 when Swiss vine-dresser, Jean-Jacques (John James) Dufour, set out across the new Nation to find suitable land for growing grapes. Dufour eventually discovered what he described as an ideally suited location for grape growing on the steep banks of the Kentucky River in modern-day Jessamine County.
In nearby Lexington, Dufour soon made the acquaintance of Henry Clay. Backed with money from several prominent statesmen, including Clay, Dufour formed the Kentucky Vineyard Society and purchased 600 acres of property which he terraced, planted with vines and constructed a gravity-flow winery near the river’s bank. He named the Nation’s first commercial winery, fittingly, “First Vineyard,” and in 1803, bottles from the first vintage made from the now nearly extinct Cape (or Alexander) red grape were sent to U.S. President and well-known wine connoisseur, Thomas Jefferson.
Kentucky now has more than 70 wineries.
