Special Field Trip Opportunity! I will be leading an upcoming Walking Tour of historic Oak Hill Cemetery in northwest Washington, DC and a few spots still remain! The date is next Thursday, Nov. 14th, with a cost of $79 (transportation included). This course is part of Frederick Community College's Institute for Learning in Retirement (for students 60 years of age+). Departure from FCC at 8:30am with planned return by 4:15pm. In this course, I will be pointing out Washington DC luminaries and plenty of Frederick, MD connections from 10am-1pm, and our excursion will feature a late "lunch on your own" at Potomac Park in Montgomery County where we can continue talking Frederick history! After nearly a year, Chris Haugh's "Frederick History 101" will be offered again as an "in-person" course beginning Monday, October 21st from 12noon-2:30pm! Bring a bag lunch and enjoy this 4-part course (on consecutive Mondays through Nov. 11th) in the beautiful Key Memorial Chapel on the grounds of Mount Olivet Cemetery. We will start in the 1730s and early settlement and discussions will take us up through the 1900s to the present with focus on the H&F Trolley, Braddock Heights, Hood College, residents enlisting in World Wars, Fort Detrick, Golden Mile, suburbanization and the death of Downtown (and its subsequent Renaissance) and beyond. $79 Click the link for registration info!
