Cool story: In front of the Pioneer Memorial Library, there is an incredible eagle sculpture. This work of art was created by chainsaw sculptor, James Brazeal from Capitan, New Mexico. The Gillespie County Courthouse Square Beautification Committee was going to remove a dying tree in front of the old Courthouse, when one of the members asked Brazeal if he wanted the wood for his carvings. Brazeal suggested "Why don't you let me carve a sculpture there on the grounds?" And that's exactly what he did! This eagle sculpture represents: a shield of the east, where the sun rises; freedom to Americans; and it suggests a grandfather eagle teaching the young ones.
