There are some fish kicking around but we need more rain to bring additional fish in and spread the existing ones throughout the system. I had a fairly productive morning today hooking 8 in 4 hours thanks to the creek coming up last night and getting some color.

I went out for a couple hours yesterday to see if any fresh steelhead made their way into the creeks with the recent rain. Unfortunately we did not get the big rains they were calling for, however we still managed to get around an inch and a half. Based on the stream gages this brought the streams up, but not to typical fall blowout levels. Based on yesterday’s results, some fresh large steelhead have made their way into the system despite flows not being incredibly high. With the rain that they are calling for this coming weekend, that should really get things kicked off here in Chautauqua County! STEELHEAD UPDATE: The creeks are low and clear! We are in desperate need of rain. Based on my scouting today, there are a few fish kicking around the streams that likely came in from our last semi significant rain event August 27, which have made their way higher up in the system. The run should be in full swing once we get a big rain event. Until then, anglers will likely have the best luck casting at creek mouths.

Last Sunday during the cold front a client and I did a special native brook trout trip on a spring fed mountain stream in an old growth hemlock forest. It was quite a successful day on the water! Here’s a photo of one of the many that were brought to hand

Sorry I’ve been absent! I’ve been recovering from surgery. I was able to get out for the first time in a month today. The spawn is on in Ohio! The NY and PA tributaries are starting to slow down but Ohio is still providing some good action! I got into double digits in just 3 hours of fishing.

I’m now booking trips for the fall of 2023. The first opening is October 14 (tentatively). If you book your trip before 7/1/23, you’ll receive a $25 discount off your trip.

🚨 GIANT ALERT 🚨

Ryan and Xander had a fun day out on the creek! Fishing was tough at times but they pushed through it and landed a good mix of fresh and drop back steelhead! Ryan caught a Lake Erie GIANT, nearly 13 pounds! Congratulations!!
