Every summer we offer a rafting trip for teens/preteens at Adventure Bound, and it is a BLAST! We drive up from our Freeport campus, camp together, enjoy all the amenities and go white water rafting! The AB staff is wonderful, and we are super grateful for this partnership for one incredible wilderness trip! Be sure to check out Adventure Bound as well as our August rafting/camping trip at https://throughthetrees.org/summer-session. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

Homeschool programs offer flexibility, hands-on learning, and a strong sense of communityโ€”and what better way to bring those values to life than with an outdoor adventure?

For the past few years, Through The Trees has brought their Teen Wilderness Trips to Adventure Bound, combining their outdoor expertise with our Class IV whitewater rafting on the Kennebec River! Their trips are a perfect example of how homeschool and outdoor organizations can enhance their programs by adding guided adventures.

Why Bring Your Homeschool Group to Adventure Bound?

โœ… Customizable trips to fit your curriculum & schedule
โœ… Guided & unguided outdoor experiences in the Kennebec River Valley
โœ… Lodging, meals & gear providedโ€”we make it easy!
โœ… Team-building & outdoor learning through rafting, ropes courses & more

๐ŸŒฒโ˜€๏ธโœจโ„๏ธ Do you have any Winter Solstice traditions? โ„๏ธโœจโ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒฒ

The Winter Solstice is this Saturday, December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere. Many cultures around the world honor this time of darkness as a rebirth of the Sun and a time of quiet, peace, inner reflection and connection to the natural world and her rhythms. The solstice marks the longest night of the year, with the amount of light growing longer each day thereafter until Summer Solstice.

Celebrations from as early as the Neolithic period are recorded, with ancient structures built to honor the sunrise. Today, lantern walks in the dark, creating spirals of all sizes and festivals often play a part. The spiral walk symbolizes the sun's journey to the darkest night of the year (center of the spiral), then back out toward the longest day at the Summer Solstice. This is often done holding a lantern to represent the sun's journey as well as our own inner journeys in finding light. The Spiral Walk has been a beloved tradition with our Homeschool Nature Immersion Program for several years!

โ„๏ธ๐ŸŒจ๐Ÿ’ฆ Hey Homeschoolers! Join us this Friday from 10am-12pm for some super cool water science exploration in our Friday Nature Science (Fri-Sci) Class! We will learn about the water cycle and how weather changes the state of water to solid, liquid or gas. We will attempt to freeze a bubble and conduct a citizen science experiment to test the quality water from our beloved Frost Gulley Brook. While we walk through the woods, we will discuss how plant and animal life depends on water in all its forms. All ages welcome!

Fri-Sci classes run the first Friday each month at Through the Trees, with a different topic and activities each class!

GIVING TUESDAY is today! On this global day of giving, we hope you will consider supporting Through the Trees - https://throughthetrees.org/. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฒ

Donations are vital in keeping our nature immersion programs running for youth of all ages - from toddlers to teens! Our programs focus on supporting kids and teens outdoors to experience the healing powers of nature. As screens become more and more prevalent on our lives, being surrounded by the trees, fresh and air and sunshine is paramount for our health and well-being. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฒ

At Through the Trees our Registered Maine Guides teach kids and teens wilderness skills such as fire building, debris shelter construction, foraging, tree and plant ID, bushcraft, navigation and knife and tool use. We give kids the opportunity to self direct their play and learning in the natural world, allowing them ample time to explore their own interests and slow down in this fast paced world. All of our Guides and Mentors are passionate about sharing their love of the outdoors and creating a meaningful community that supports children and teens in emotional intelligence, problem solving, communication skills, resilience, self-awareness, self-confidence and a love and respect for the earth. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฒ

Help us continue to nurture our nature immersion programs by giving to Through the Trees - https://throughthetrees.org/! We thank you for your support! ๐Ÿ™

๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ‚โœจWe are taking a break and will be closed through December 1st. Before we go, here is a little bit about what we've done during the month of November.

๐Ÿ‚This month we have focused a lot of our energy on our Root Value of Kindness, with kindness challenges, sharing acts of kindness and talking about what it means to be kind. We've also talked about Gratitude and shared many things for which we are grateful. Oak has been our tree focus and Deer is the animal we've tuned into. There has been more debris shelter building, as kids make adjustments and insulate their shelters with leaves and grasses for winter. Our very special Grandfriends came to visit earlier in the month and last week we made lots of Stone Soup. There's been lots of woodworking, art projects, navigation activities and campfire cooking!
