🎡 We'd like to give a little shout out to the San Juan County Fair! This year marks the 100th anniversery of the San Juan County Fairgrounds, and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate with them.

The San Juan County Fair is an annual event that brings together local farmers, producers, artists, and community members for four days of fun and entertainment. If you haven't been before, you're missing out on a true island tradition. Luckily, you'll have 4 days to catch all the action, from August 15th-18th.

🥾 Swipe to take a look inside San Juan Island's English Camp, a must-see destination offering visitors a glimpse into our island's past.

🏕️English Camp is a historic site and a part of the San Juan Island National Historical Park, which preserves and interprets the history of the British and American joint occupation of San Juan Island.

🏕️ The site includes several restored and reconstructed buildings that were originally part of the camp, including officers’ quarters and barracks. The area is maintained by the National Park Service and offers educational programs about the historical period.

🏕️ Visitors to English Camp can explore the historical buildings, enjoy walking trails, and learn about the military and civilian life of the 19th century through ranger-led tours and interpretive exhibits.

🏕️ Today, English Camp is a popular destination for those interested in history, military heritage, and the natural beauty of San Juan Island. It also serves as a location for various historical reenactments and educational activities related to the Pig War and the period of British-American joint occupation.

🌊 Happy ! Today, we're shining a light on the beautiful lighthouses of San Juan Island.

The iconic Lime Kiln Lighthouse, also known as Whale Watch Park, (part of Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission) is a must-visit. Built in 1919, it offers stunning views and is one of the best places in the world to see orcas from the shore! 🐋

Don't miss the Cattle Point Lighthouse, located at the southern tip of the island (part of San Juan Island National Historic Park). This lighthouse was built in 1935, but a navigational lantern has been on watch here since 1888. It stands proudly on a bluff overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The panoramic views are simply breathtaking. 🌅📸

Both lighthouses are rich in history and provide a glimpse into the maritime heritage of the Pacific Northwest. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or just seeking a peaceful escape, San Juan Island's lighthouses are sure to captivate your heart. 💙

🎨 San Juan Islands Museum Of Art
The SJIMA features 8 to 10 exhibits per year showcasing both local artists from the region and from around the world.
🛖 San Juan Historical Museum
A visit to the Museum will allow you to step back in time – to 1894. Walk the grounds and explore the restored James King farm house, the original county jail, and the Scribner log cabin. Peel back the layers of the rich history and blend of cultures this island has hosted over the centuries.
🐳 The Whale Museum
The Whale Museum in downtown Friday Harbor educates on whale stewardship and the Salish Sea ecosystem through exhibits, research, and videos. It's an ideal first stop, featuring a gift shop with marine-themed items.
🪖 Friday Harbor Veterans Museum at American Legion Post 163
The local American Legion Hall hosts a unique military memorabilia display from San Juan Islands' veterans, chronologically showcasing items from the Civil War to present conflicts. Highlights include an Iwo Jima helmet flag, an 1865 New York Herald announcing Lincoln's death, and a Civil War flag with battle damage. Non-members can request access to view this collection.
🛩️ San Juan Aviation Museum at Port of Friday Harbor Marina & Airport
The San Juan Aviation Museum celebrates the San Juan Islands' aviation history through storyboards and historical photographs dating from just after World War II. It honors pilots who've significantly contributed to aviation and the community, showcasing logbooks and memorabilia.

We've lived on the island for many generations and love to share our local knowledge with our guests. If you have any questions about the history and culture of San Juan Islands, feel free to ask us during your stay!

Whales are listed under the federal Endangered Species Act, so many boats keep a respectful distance–the regulated distance for most species is 100 yards; Bigg's (transient) orcas is 200 yards; and endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales are 300 yards.

Our local whale watch companies are very mindful of these guidelines, but still manage to give you an amazing once in a lifetime experience!

ONE WEEK UNTIL San Juan Island's premiere Chamber Music ensemble returns with a brand-new concert featuring wonderful female composers, Louise Farrenc, Jenni Brandon, & San Juan Island's own female composer, Alex Shapiro! Classic pieces from Bach, Chopin, and more will also be featured to round out this evening of rich music!

The performance is on Saturday, April 6th, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students, and $5 for student rush tickets.
