The road through Winter begins in the Fall and ends in the Spring, requires eight months to traverse, and holds promise- but no guarantees- of riches at its termination.
Sometimes the route is smooth, built on success, lined with adoring friends, illuminated by sunshine.
Other times the path is lonely and in shadow, heaved with misfortune, narrowed and steeped by failure.
For everyone who makes the journey there is sweat in the Fall and frost in the Winter.
For a select few there is more than sunshine in the Spring.

Mixed emotions as I read about one of our favorite ski areas, Taos Ski Valley, being sold. Chris Stagg and his wife Wendy Blake always were so hospitable when we had the chance to ski there. I'm happy to hear Chris will remain in the area. Times do change.
