Burkman Holiday Home
The Burkman family in Frisco have been doing Holiday displays for the past 18 years. The adventure started when their 2 year old son became fascinated with lights and sound. Alex was taking apart and reassembling anything electronic at the age of two. Alex was diagnosed with Autism while he was in preschool. He remained fascinated with lights…specifically Christmas lights. He put together his first light display at the age of 9. His display has grown from 500 lights to well over 40,000 lights. The family all pitches in: Mom (Jen) designs the display and hot glues over 5000 lights, Grandpa (Gene/Santa) is the General Contractor, Jack (brother) is the photographer/parking patrol elf, Dad (Corey) makes sure life goes on for the family by keeping the house running and pitching in when needed, while Alex is the Electrical Genius that makes all of those lights come alive. He even installed another electrical panel in the garage to handle all those lights! Every weekend in December, the family is outside ready as Santa and the Elves handing out candy canes and hot chocolate. The magic mailbox near the toddler size Gingerbread house is for local kids to mail a letter to Santa and even get a personalized response. The 200 piece train village in the garage is the newest piece this year along with more selfie stations. They have already hosted over 3000 visitors in the month of December and handed out over 1500 cups of hot chocolate and 1400 candy canes. The family took 1st place in their Subdivision contest in 2017. The home placed 2nd in the 2018 Best Christmas Lights in Dallas contest. They have been metioned and discussed in 6 different local papers, tweeted and shared by media outlets (radio and tv) and featured on DFW NBC 5 nightly news. Come see this amazing display and share in the holiday joy!
