Fruita inspires a passion for experiences, drawing people to quiet moments and the wide-open views that often go unnoticed. Here, they find peace in the beauty of the landscape around them. In Fruita, we’re lucky enough to experience this every day—through our surroundings, our community, and the way we care for one another. Here, you’re always just minutes away from a hike, an awesome bike trail, or somewhere cozy to settle in.

Trails like this one, in the McInnis Canyons Conservation Area are minutes away from downtown Fruita. There are dozens of trails to choose from but each one takes you through winding desert canyons, with cascading vistas, unique in their own way. You’ll find cacti, juniper trees, red sandstone, and wildflowers, and if you’re lucky a few lizards and other wildlife. In the spring the creek beds fill up with snow melt and the whole area turns into a desert oasis. The whole area hums with its desert magic.

In the fall you can enjoy our perfect climate and clear air. With the McInnis canyons area being so large you’re likely to find other hikers (and their furry friends) but the further you go, you’ll find yourself all alone, getting lost for hours in the best way possible. There trails are perfect if you’re the type to take your time, see what you can find, and explore in your own way.

Rustlers Loop, part of the Kokopelli Trail system, offers a desert escape for mountain bikers and hikers. The trails wind through red sandstone drops, soft high desert sands, and clusters of blooming paintbrush flowers and ancient junipers. The route skirts along cliffs, with sweeping views of the Colorado River carving through the canyon below. Just 13 minutes from Fruita, nearly a four mile loop, it’s a perfect spot for beginners, or those looking to get outta’ town and just enjoy a nice view.
