Inspiring young kids to take up AND providing the resources for them to do it easily is an important personal mission for me as an avid angler and outdoor journalist. It wasn't just my imagination that a perch I caught in Lake Erie this weekend was freakishly huge...the Fish Ohio qualifications confirm it! It's the biggest yellow perch I've ever seen and actually thought I was pulling up a walleye. Thanks Ohio Division of Wildlife for the Fish Ohio program to encourage anglers to aim high and promote diversity in pursuit of new species. This one was a beast and so exciting to catch! Thank you for the recognition.
My white bass was 0.5" shy of another Fish Ohio.

Excited to share the fall issue of Rails to Trails Conservancy Magazine featuring an article I wrote about a trailside treasure along the Paint Creek Recreational Trail in southern Ohio. A portion of it runs alongside the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks which is the recently named UNESCO World Heritage Site in the state and one of only 26 in the U.S. This was a fun one for a road trip!

What a fabulous day shooting on-location at Alum Creek in Delaware, Ohio for an episode of the Delaware County Fishing Trail series. My co-host Tim Wilson with Destination Delaware County Ohio is such a great partner and together we helped the Ohio Division of Wildlife release 30,000 blue catfish into Alum Creek during our episode. It's hard to call this work when we have such a fun team working together with New Vision Media and our production coordinator Jackie Popa Armstrong. The cool temps and fall ambiance was on-point for today's shoot!

Part of my outdoor writing portfolio includes subjects related to conservation and it's been eye-opening to see some of the efforts underway around the world that we don't even know are happening. In my latest article for Kinute, I pull back the veil of one such hidden place that is preserving the genetic material of some of the world's most endangered and famous plants including Isaac Newton's apple tree. I love article assignments that spotlight the positive elements of the outdoors and the life-changing benefits that activities like fishing have, especially for young people. This assignment was EXTRA special because I got to highlight the great work that my cousin Robb Schneeman is doing with the fishing team at Covington Catholic High School.
