I came over to the Cozy Cottage today to take down Christmas. I was sad but it was time. Everybody who came after before and after Christmas thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was time to put it away. I decided to clean out some cabinets and do some organizing since I was here. As I came out of the lower level master suite, I saw how pretty the lake looked and just thought I would share it with you. We got an extra bonus when the herd of deer came in. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

We’ve been busy today decorating the Cozy Cottage for the holidays. We’ve put up a couple trees and are ready for the lovely family arriving at 4 pm to celebrate Thanksgiving with their family. We still have a few December openings if you’d like to come enjoy the cottage in person. Hang on and let’s take a quick tour! (It was drizzly or I would have filmed from the driveway. I had my shoes off so I wouldn’t get the floors wet after loading the car). Enjoy!!

We aren’t near this area, but have visitors from all over.

FYI. This is due to high winds and an area wide drought. The Southern Area Coordination Center listed the Tennessee mountains as having “significant fire potential” with gusts predicted to blow up to 90 mph. Please let your guests know this and to let them know burning or fires of any kind are prohibited as of right now. For reference, the Smoky Mountain wildfires in 2016 that resulted in the eastern coast’s largest wildfire since the 40s had wind gusts up to 87 mph.

Interesting fact about our county. I had no idea!

If you’re into history, this area is full of it. Be sure and stop by the Sumner County museum when you’re here visiting. There’s also tons of civil war era museums, including battlefields , within an hours drive.

A did you know for your Thursday ...

Did you know that 237 years ago this week Sumner County was established from Davidson county when this area was still part of North Carolina?

This was in 1786, 10 years BEFORE Tennessee became a state (meaning our county is 𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 than our state)!

To honor this, in 1998, Sumner County adopted its own flag (designed by Devereaux Cannon Jr.). Here's what it all means:
- Colors are of the American flag
- Design resembles the original revolution style flag
- The circle of 13 stars has been expanded to 16 to signify Tennessee as the 16th member of the American Union (with three stripes as Tennessee was the third state to join the Union following the 13)
- The font is in 18th centrury script
Flag 1 of 100 is on display at the Museum.

It’s definitely that time of year. The road to the cottage has tons of deer throughout the year, but this time of year you have to be extra cautious. Last year I had to come to a full stop due to a buck in the road. I wasn’t 100% sure he wasn’t going to challenge by car for the doe he was after. Yesterday our painter, who is busy painting the upper deck, told me about the buck we were watching. The day before it was aggressively chasing after a doe most of the late afternoon. Back and forth across the yard by the water. If you’re visiting us, be mindful that the bucks can be aggressive this time of year. Give them a wide path and respect their space. When driving, keep your eyes open, your head on swivel and drive a little slower than the speed limit as dusk starts setting in.

BE ON ALERT.
I live a bit out in the country.
And, when I head into work early this time of year I keep my head on a swivel.
Deer suddenly dart out onto Tater Peeler Road — in a split second.
