Make sure you visit The Spot when you come to Galveston! Great owners and even better food!!

5/4/22 Update:

A few weeks ago I spoke to a classroom of Ball High School students.

They were an engaged group of young men and women. We talked about starting a business, growing a business, the sacrifices necessary to be successful…typical stuff.

At the conclusion of the class, one student came up to introduce himself. He shook my hand and told me he had just started a pressure washing business and that he wanted to add parking lot striping. It happened to be his lucky day, we were in need of having our parking lot striped.

We exchanged numbers, met to review the scope of work and I released him to get started.

To my surprise, as I drove my children to school this morning, he was at The Spot starting the job. He texted me at 8:30am to let me know he would be back shortly, that he had to go check in at school, so he could receive his class credit.

Sure, we could have called a well established parking lot striping company to do this job. Sure, this young man may make a couple of mistakes. However, at the end of the day, here’s a high school kid that gets an opportunity.

He’ll be able to point to this job and hopefully use it to secure another job. I’m glad he pulled me aside during that class and I’m glad the timing was right to give him an opportunity.

Give someone an opportunity today. Many times, that’s all someone needs.
