The Galveston Wharves, a major U.S. cruise home port, and MSC Cruises, a leading international cruise company, have finalized an operating agreement for a fourth cruise terminal complex at the Port of Galveston. MSC Seascape will homeport at the new terminal beginning in November 2025.

The port will develop the $100 million cruise terminal, $42 million parking garage, internal roadway and other improvements at Pier 16 beginning in early 2024. The estimated $142 million project will be funded with port cash reserves and revenue bonds. The port will convert an existing cargo warehouse into the 165,000-square-foot cruise terminal.

Under the 20-year agreement, which includes four 5-year extension options, MSC will have a set cruise schedule beginning in late 2025 when the terminal opens. The port also can negotiate with other cruise lines to use the terminal based on availability. https://www.portofgalveston.com/CivicAlerts.aspx

Be prepared for delays coming to Galveston and leaving to head home. This is going to cause major delays. I sure am glad I will not be home this weekend cause this is right by my house.

It’s officially freezing in the Galvesarea right now. Like most of the country we are experiencing part of this Artic blast. We don’t like cold here and it causes a lot of problems and stress. Several highways and interstates are closed due to ice feeezing the roadways and bridges. Our DOT has been out salting or spraying the roads but it didn’t seem to help. Besides all we know about ice and salt is it’s used to make margaritas.😆Most schools are also closed.

I have a bunch of friends on a cruise right now and they are having a blast with temperatures in the high 70’s while cruising.

The weather is supposed to warm back up on Thursday and be back to normal but a chance of rain later this week.

So if you are cruising this weekend prepare to dress warm for your stay in the Galveston area but your cruise should be fine.

As we say in Texas. “If you don’t like the weather just wait a minute”.

Kind of a late heads up but IH-45 northbound will be having two lanes closed down so if you are traveling back into Houston to catch a flight expect delays. Also the cold weather is arriving a day early so expect 20 degree weather on Sunday. We don’t do cold weather well here.
