I love this house. This is so difficult to see in photos, but someone (I’m willing to bet my grandfather) placed a matchbook in the wall on the inside of this closet rack. Even after this long, I still find little surprises everywhere!

We are so thankful that my 93 year old grandfather came down to Garden City with us this week. He’s sharing so many memories-stories we’ve heard many times but they are so precious. I was almost 9 years old when Hugo hit. I did not remember this, but papa told me today that the wooden mantle was a piece of wood that washed up to our house during the storm. He and Paul Durham lived down here for 6 months after, restoring the house full time, and added that mantle. A piece of the storm that reminds us how high the water was inside our house. ❤️
