It's President's Day! We want to thank President Uysless Grant for signing the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act in 1872 and President Theodore Roosevelt who was instrumental in protecting and conserving our public lands and, in 1903, laid the cornerstone of the Roosevelt Arch in Gardiner, Montana.

Thank you for helping spearhead America's best idea, "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People."

Heads Up! Travel to and in Yellowstone National Park not advised due to winter storm; Hazardous road conditions and temporary closures

Travel to and in Yellowstone National Park is not advised due to a significant winter storm.

Some park roads are temporarily closed due to winter weather and hazardous driving conditions.

Stay informed about road status in Yellowstone:
▫ Visit go.nps.gov/YELLroads
▫ Call (307) 344-2117 for recorded information.
▫ Receive Yellowstone road alerts on your mobile phone by texting "82190" to 888-777 (an automatic text reply will confirm receipt and provide instructions).

Check the local weather forecast: https://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/weather.htm

After the storm passes and as conditions improve, park roads and entrances that are temporarily closed will reopen.

Visitors should be aware that most park roads will be closed Nov. 1. The park annually closes roads at this time of year to prepare them for the winter season and snowmobile and snowcoach travel, which will begin Dec. 15.

The only park roads open year-round (weather dependent) are between the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana (via Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley). The park prioritizes keeping these roads open in the winter as conditions allow.

Tis the season. Stay safe and follow these simple rules to make the most of your park visit!

#1 Never ask “If not friend, why friend shaped?”

#2 Never split up. Always stick with slower friends until you need to...umm until you’re safe.

#3 Make sure your car is in working order. What do you mean you dropped the keys?

#4 He’s not that cute. Resist the urge to pet wildlife.

#5 Don’t feed the squirrels after midnight. Don’t feed them anytime.

#6 Wear comfortable shoes.

#7 Watch where you’re running. Tree roots care for no one.

#8 Don't poke things with sticks.

#9 Be wary of a faster friend saying, “let’s split up.”
#10 Keep your pants on. Because it’s cold.

#11 Check the forecast. “Thunderbolt and lightning – very, very frightening”

#12 Have fun! Not too much fun. You know, moderation.

#13 It’s behind you.

Just dropping by to ask, “did you remember your bear spray?”

The bears around the park have been very activity this summer! Please remember to hike in groups, be loud, and carry your bear spray. (And know how to use it)!
