Tillamook South Jetty Repairs - Bayocean D**e Road Access Update from the USACE
Beginning 27 November public access to Bayocean D**e Road, north of Bayocean Peninsula Park will be intermittently closed. In support of the Tillamook South Jetty Repairs project, construction activity along Bayocean D**e Road, north of Bayocean Peninsula Park, and near the south jetty will pose a risk to public safety. The public should expect to see construction related signage and active traffic control at the public parking lot at Bayocean Peninsula Park. Active traffic control may provide real-time estimates on when public access to Bayocean D**e Road, north of Bayocean Peninsula Park, will be closed and open. Public access near the south jetty, north of Kincheloe Point, via Bayocean D**e Road will be closed all hours and all days until Fall of 2025, or the end of active construction.. Tillamook South Jetty Repairs project will be ongoing from 27 November to Fall of 2025. At every extended opportunity which will allow for safe public access, Bayocean D**e Road, south of Kincheloe Point, will be open. South Jetty Repair Update
It has been a long road to get to this point, but we can finally announce some good news. Since the completion of the North Jetty repairs in 2009, the Port of Garibaldi and our partners (Tillamook County, Port of Tillamook Bay, the Pacific Northwest Waterway Association, Oregon Public Ports Association, Business Oregon, Senators Merkley and Wyden, and Representatives Schrader and Bonamici) have been working very hard to secure funding and coordinating logistics with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
We can now announce that contractors for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District (USACE) will soon begin critical repairs to the Tillamook South Jetty. Repairs will include placement of large stone to rebuild portions of the South Jetty head and trunk. Additional activities will include roadway improvements, construction of a temporary material offload facility (M*F) near Kincheloe Point, minor dredging to maintain barge access to the M*F, and utilization of upland staging and stockpiling areas. The work is expected to require transportation of heavy equipment and materials via both barge and Bayocean D**e Road. Construction is anticipated to be complete within approximately two years.
In the interest of public safety and given the nature of the work to be performed, the contractor will be temporarily restricting access to portions of the Bayocean Peninsula during construction. This will include the northern end of the peninsula and the jetty itself, Kincheloe Point, and the portion of Bayocean D**e Road beyond the parking lot and gate as required to facilitate safe and efficient construction.
Everyone involved in this project is aware of the value Bayocean Peninsula has to our community as open recreational space/protected habitat. The USACE and the contractor have assured us that they will do their best to balance the community’s desire for access with the need to maintain a safe construction environment.

Harvey is staying!
As some of you may have noticed a portion of our building is missing, not to worry. Harvey the Rabbit, and the building he has watched over for 50 years will not be going anywhere. Over the next several months, Harvey will get a much needed paint job and the structure that was built in the 1880s will be renovated.

Captain Mark Hagedorn grew up in Washington, where he spent many hours fishing for trout in Eastern Washington, fishing for salmon in Puget Sound, and hunting waterfowl on both side of the Cascade Mountains. While in college, he spent time learning the hunting and fishing opportunities in the Skagit and Nooksack River deltas.
After college the lure of the racing business (supplier to Formula 1, Champ Car, NASCAR, etc.) in Southern California took him away from Washington. There he was exposed to the warm water ocean fisheries off Newport and Sand Diego. A few years later, the visit to California ended and a new adventure began as his career took him to Portland, OR. He quickly got back into waterfowl hunting with friends and coworkers, who in turn exposed him to the many fishing opportunities available between the Columbia River, Willamette River, and the Pacific Ocean.
Mark soon purchased what would be the first of three boats that he would own over the next 11 years. His boat named Hillbilly Deluxe (second of its name) spends the spring months chasing bottom fish, salmon, halibut, and crab out of Garibaldi, OR. Once the warm water moves closer to shore in early July, Mark and Hillbilly Deluxe begin making trips west in search of the abundant Albacore Tuna populations that seasonally visit the Oregon coast. Later in the season you will see Hillbilly Deluxe and its tournament crew on the competitor list for the Oregon Tuna Classic (OTC) series of events.
Balancing his work as an executive for an energy storage corporation with being an advocate for Stevens Marine, Mercury Marine, Raymarine and Kingfisher Boats, leaves Mark driving from his home in North Plains, OR, to the coast most days that the ocean conditions let us fish during the season. In the off season, you will see him in the duck blind or at many of the industry shows and events between Washington and Oregon.
After years of experience, Mark is ready to charter your next deep sea fishing adventure. Captain Mark Hagedorn is a licensed Guide in Oregon and by the Coast Guard as an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV 6 pack).
