Update: "the powers that be" have agreed upon a scope of work & a budget. Hopefully they'll begin restoration of the cabin within the month. Let's keep our finger crossed and pray that it all gets done correctly......YEAH there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

In the mean time what a great time to visit the Smokies. The dogwoods are in blooms and the wild irises. Don't miss out seeing such beauty.

Gatlinburg is suffering from flooding & down trees & down power lines.

Unfortunately the winds storm has brought a huge tree down on the cabin. The cabin is down temporarily for a few months for repairs.
We’ll try to fix the cabin as soon as possible but seriously it’ll take months.

Update: claim is turned in & restoration company has been assigned. We’re on our way toward recovery.

The cabin is ready for you and yours!Hurry and get everyone together and let the celebrations begin.

Sometimes we forget the simple things to do such as enjoy nature. Gatlinburg has plenty of that. However don't miss out on the Craftsmans Loop or the view from Clingman's Dome.
Cabin is booking fast. Logon & secure your dates at: https://www.vacasa.com/unit/54130

* Sugarlands visitor center
-its an informational center & has several hikes

* Clingmans dome: Clingmans Dome towers at 6,643 feet tall. Located along the state-line ridge, Clingmans Dome is a popular park destination. Situated on a summit, the observation tower offers stunningly expansive views of the Smoky Mountains as far as the eye can see. Those who make their way to the top are awarded with panoramic 360-degree views of one of the largest protected areas of land in the eastern United States.
Views from the top of the observation tower are spectacular when days are clear. The view can expand over 100 miles in every direction and into seven states.

* Roaring forks motor trail
-Its name derived from a “roaring” mountain stream, the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail twists and turns for six-miles, forming a one-way looping scenic drive through the Great Smoky Mountains. The narrow roadway only allows cars—trucks, trailers and RVs cannot fit on this road.
The drive along Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail begins at the Noah “Bud” Ogle farmstead, where you can take a walking tour of the historic buildings and pick up a tour map of the roadway sights. The trailhead for Rainbow Falls can be found just beyond the farmstead, a moderate hike to a stunning waterfall. It’s a 5.4-mile roundtrip hike to Rainbow Falls (it’s less than 3 miles one way!) and your reward is the 80-foot high waterfall, the tallest single-drop waterfall in the national park.

The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail also provides access to the Trillium Gap Trail. Hike the Trillium Gap Trail to reach Grotto Falls, the only place in the Smoky Mountains where you can stand behind the falls as the water cascades to the pool. If hiking to a waterfall is not your thing, the Place of a Thousand Drips can be reached by car. It’s one of two waterfalls in the park accessible by car—find it at stop 15, near the end of the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.

Insider Tip:
Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the scenic turnouts or to eat it at the waterfall after hiking the Trillium Gap Trail. There are no Visitor Centers along the motor trail and no-turning back once you start, so packing a cooler with water and snacks is advisable.

Directions:
At Traffic Light #8 in Gatlinburg, TN turn off the Parkway onto Historic Nature Trail Road. Follow this road to the Orchard entrance to the Smoky Mountains National Park. The entrance to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail loop is immediately following the Rainbow Falls Trailhead.

* Arts & Craftsman loop

-Explore Gatlinburg’s Historic Arts & Crafts Trail. See over 100 artists and craftsmen in 8 mile loop of shops, studios, galleries and eateries. Purchase handmade memories of your visit to the Smokies.

What a great time to stay at the cabin.
The Smokies offers lots of outdoors events. However this is pretty amazing, YoYo Ma doing pop up concerts in the Smokies…..to follow he talks about the pop ups.

“Falling in love with nature connects us to a greater whole,” said Ma, who went on to explain how this experience deepens our relationship with more than the natural world. It can also better connect us with other people and ourselves.

“I think I’m a fuller human being,” said Ma. “I am more in touch with the core of who I am.”
Yo Yo Ma performing in Great Smoky Mountains National Park with Cherokee musicians
Over the last few weeks, the National Park Service has helped Ma to host surprise pop-up concerts all over the Smokies as part of his Our Common Nature series, from Oconaluftee to Cades Cove to Kuwohi, or Clingmans Dome. For most of these musical performances, Ma collaborated with special musical guests who shared something about their own experience or love for the Smokies. The message at the heart of these performances couldn’t come at a better time.

As we approach the summer solstice and the longest days of the year, I hope you too find an opportunity to fall in love with nature all over again. I also hope you can connect with others while you’re out there, whether that’s by signing up for an upcoming Branch Out event, having a casual conversation at the trailhead, or making room for a passing black bear. Even in this especially busy season, sharing the Smokies can be a profoundly positive experience.

“This is not my space,” Ma reminds us. “This is our common space, our common nature.”

For award-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma, music is the compass taking him on a new journey around the country as part of his "Our Common Nature" program. CBS News senior national correspondent Mark Strassman visited Great Smoky Mountains National Park with Ma to get a first look at his project that's tran...

Today is a foggy wet morning at the cabin. What is there to do? Well, one of the many things we have is a bumper pool table to keep guests entertained. Bumper pool is not as widely known as regular billiards, but its just as fun!
We found and refurbished our table, knowing our guests would love it. We changed the felt to a beautiful red and replaced all the bumpers.
Not familiar with the rules? Well we've got you covered! We have them posted by the table or here in this post.
Dont want to play pool today? Thats ok, flip the top over and it becomes a game table for cards or anything else.
Our table also offers extra dinning space for guests. Or make it the kids table. Our little ones usually feels special when they have their own space to eat.
Check out how our table came along below and then head over to see if we have availability for your next trip!
