Travel isn't always easy. My husband here is putting on a happy face, but I think we both felt like I look. This is 2019 and we were transferring from Paris to Disneyland on the RER Line A, which is a direct line straight from the city to the parks. The train station at Disneyland exits out to the area where the hotel buses pick up, and our Paris Hotel was right across the street from the departure station, so super convenient! But, our luggage was heavy, and there were no elevators (that we could find, anyway), and the escalators down to the train were not working, and my feet were already pretty achy from walking around Paris for three days, so when we finally got on that train, we needed a moment to just decompress!

But, would I do it all again? Absolutely!

This is a stressful time of year, and in the frenzy of Black Friday shopping, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of making a snap decision about travel.

Black Friday deals often come with blackout dates and restrictive travel options

If you’re feeling spontaneous, go ahead and book, but if you’re planning for trips well into the future, give yourself time to plan and find the best value

✅Eating German food (one of my favorites!) in Germany

And naturally, with less than 2 months left in the year, I‘m already thinking of 2025.

New year new trips! So far I‘m planning these trips for my family:

✅Sailing on the Disney Wish
✅Savannah view room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
✅ Wizard themed hotel room and a Harry Potter Tour of London
✅ Showing my kids the inner circle of Stonehenge, a specially booked experience I last did before they were born
✅ Seeing the view of Paris from the Eiffel Tower (while my hubby, who doesn’t like heights, finds us snacks!)

T’is the season to give! And if you’re thinking about gifting travel this Holiday season…

First of all, your giftee is lucky to have you in their life.

And second of all, here are a few tips for a perfectly executed gifted trip:

🎁 If possible, to keep things open-ended. Unless you’re 100% sure someone can depart on the exact dates you decide, it’s worthwhile keeping things flexible, just in case.

🎁 You may want to forgo pre-booking something. Instead, gift a token that represents the trip, like a map, brochure, or travel-related items, and then allow the person you’re gifting to plan the trip with a trusted travel advisor.

🎁 Sometimes it’s not the trip. It’s the journey. You may want to make the person you’re gifting a part of the travel planning process and give them VIP treatment by having an advisor who can curate and do the heavy lifting of booking the travel once they decide where they’d like to go.

What was originally created as a way to export chicks, ostrich eggs, and meat to South America is now a fun place to visit as a family for a unique experience. You can visit the Curaçao Ostrich Farm on your next vacation to learn about the lifecycle of an ostrich on the farm’s jeep safari. You may even be able to feed one of the 200 ostriches before you enjoy dinner at the local restaurant. This is an amusing way to spend a day when you want something besides time on the beach.

This is no ordinary Asian meal. Nope, this is a plate of fried rice, gyoza, and chicken curry at 8 in the morning, because that's what jetlag and a layover at London Heathrow will do to ya! While it may have been 8:00 am in London, my body definitely thought it was midnight, and this seemed like a perfectly normal option for breakfast. And, the restaurant that was open (and serving conveyer belt sushi, which was also devoured) seemed to agree!

On this gloomy Monday here in Seattle, I need a little reminder of sunshine and relaxation.

The photo above is from my trip to Turkey and Greece in the summer of 2023.

We sailed with Azamara Cruise Line in a magnificent spa suite from Istanbul to Athens, stopping at both traditional and also smaller ports for a deep dive into Greek culture. One of my favorite memories is riding on this pirate ship, the Arabella, in Thessaloniki, Greece all for the price of these two grapefruit sodas!
