This week’s member spotlight in Chugach Adventures. Owner Ari Stiassny tells us more about his business and the importance of tourism for the community: "Tourism is the main economic engine of Girdwood and many Southcentral communities. My business, Chugach Adventures, has been operating in Girdwood since 2002. We have grown our business almost twofold over the last decade and employ approximately 40 seasonal employees for the summer from May through September. Our staff is comprised of mostly local young Alaskans, including high school and college students learning the ropes of being an adventure guide and the important customer service skills that are needed, along with professionals - teachers, nurses, retirees, and others looking for a break and alternate outside career path. Our employees pride themselves on sharing their local Alaska stories and pointing travelers to the restaurants, communities, and destinations within Alaska that visitors can see down the road."

On why he is an ATIA member: "The advocacy efforts, networking opportunities, Travel Alaska website direct traffic, annual ATIA convention, and much more are hugely beneficial to my business. I have been a member of ATIA for over 10 years, and the partnerships and connections that I have made over the last decade have helped my tourism business double in size over the last decade. The Adventure Green Alaska program has also been a great effort of ATIA that we have been committed to. Chugach Adventures is HIRING for an Office Position.
This position is based in Girdwood, AK.

This is a full-time office/reservation agent hiring for April 2022 - September/October 2022. We are an adventure tour company specializing in rafting, kayaking, helicopter hiking, and glacier salmon bake trips; and also run a small boutique gallery gift shop from our office. The work environment is fun, fast-paced, & dynamic. The position is 2 to 5 days/week depending on season and availability, with 8 to 10 hr days.
Duties include: answering phones & emails, making & processing reservations, basic accounting and daily scheduling for Chugach Adventures; and selling gallery merchandise & inventorying for Slack Tide Gallery. Depending on the season determines the balance of duties with respect to this multifaceted office.
This is an excellent opportunity to get into the tourism industry in Alaska, and we are willing to train the right person.
This position is for someone with excellent customer service skills, good communication, a great attitude, basic computer proficiency, and a willingness to learn.
Salary DOE. Hourly Starting Wage. $16 -$20

The Alaska Railroad makes it easy to get up to Spencer Glacier, and guide companies like Chugach Adventures can get you across Spencer Lake and on top of the glacier itself. Campsites are also available for those staying overnight.
