Nooksack River:
The crown jewel of the North Cascades - the North Fork of the Nooksack River. Home to all five species of native salmon, this river is born at the base of the White Salmon Glacier, high on Mt. After mixing with many side creeks and tumbling over Nooksack Falls, this river's glacial silt-laden water enters the upper gorge of the Nooksack where our trip begins. Located just south of

the Canadian border, the Nooksack River is the best late season run in Washington. Rated as a Class III, it is always an exciting ride. We meet in the town of Glacier at Wild and Scenic's Headquarters. Sauk River:
The Sauk River, the largest tributary to the Skagit River, is a national treasure. It gained federal protection, thanks to an act of Congress, by being designated a Wild & Scenic River. When it comes to scenery and whitewater, the Sauk is a hit! The combination of pristine mountain views, wildlife, action, and local lore make this river one of the premier river rafting experiences in this country. At the put-in, the milky waters of the White Chuck flowing off of Glacier Peak mix with the turquoise waters of the North Fork Sauk River, creating the main Sauk. Nearly continuous Class III to IV rapids run through large boulders, creating great technical rapids like Hole-In-One, Guide Trap, Alligator Drop, Island Drop, Jaws, and Popeye.

As you all know, snowpack in Washington's mountains is pretty bleak this season. Most other popular rafting rivers around the state have already peaked and are much, much lower than normal. The Nooksack River is unique in that it is fed by Mt. Shuksan's glacier and is therefore still flowing strong with whitewater.
