A group of volunteers has begun work on the Old St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery on Cedar Street in Saugerties cleaning headstones and resetting those that have fallen over. It's a major undertaking but it is most satisfying and rewarding. The cemetery was opened in 1833 and many of the grave markers date back to the mid 1800's. It is amazing to be able to read engraving that has been illegible for so many decades. With some water and a little elbow grease you could not believe the transformation of these stones right before your eyes.
