A group of volunteers has begun work on the Old St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery on Cedar Street in Saugerties cleaning headstones and resetting those that have fallen over. It's a major undertaking but it is most satisfying and rewarding. The cemetery was opened in 1833 and many of the grave markers date back to the mid 1800's. It is amazing to be able to read engraving that has been illegible for so many decades. With some water and a little elbow grease you could not believe the transformation of these stones right before your eyes. For more information, or if you are interested in helping or making a donation towards the sand and gravel needed to reset the stones, contact John at 845-399-0479

The world is still an uncertain place, but travel is picking up and most European countries are welcoming Americans with eased COVID-19 restrictions. The war in the Ukraine is another issue and part of me feels guilty planning travel while that is still going on. However, we don’t know how long it will last and we should make plans with the understanding that flexibility is key – things could change.

That being said, in 2020 Hudson Valley Traveler had arranged a spectacular itinerary through Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. Naturally, this was postponed because of the pandemic; but our tour operator is going ahead with the original itinerary this September. Quite naturally, after two years some of those who signed up are no longer able to make the trip which has left a few vacancies. If you are interested in joining us, please contact me at either 845-399-6100 or [email protected]. Time is of the essence, however, so please call by Friday, May 13. Highlights of this journey include both the Oberammergau Passion Play and Munich Oktoberfest as well as Neuschwanstein Castle and the medieval village of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. If you’re thinking about getting back to traveling, there is no better, safer way to do it than with a group under the guidance of a qualified tour operator.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Check out further details on our website www.HVTraveler.com!

Today is not just Cinco de Mayo - it's also National Travel Advisor Appreciation Day. I would like to congratulate all my fellow professional travel advisors who were able to survive this past year and wish all those who did not, much luck and satisfaction in their future careers. Here's hoping we can all return to making plans and experiencing the world of travel in the very near future.
