HUGE NEWS!!! As of 10/21, Downtown Asheville is OFFICIALLY open to visitors, with caveats to avoid Biltmore Village, the River Arts District & Swannanoa for the time being (Biltmore Estate will reopen November 2). Full details below:

Our community is making progress slowly, but surely, and safely. Here is the latest update on western North Carolina including Asheville and Buncombe County:

➡️ Many businesses and restaurants are reopening as widespread power and water service return. Please let us know your business status here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kBWG7Ia0rBjdYblr7LsXmMq5ryaBlFyQmr2QVLpSMI8/viewform?pli=1&pli=1&edit_requested=true

✈️ The Asheville Regional Airport is open and operating.

🏰 Biltmore has announced plans to welcome guests on November 2.

⛰ Areas of the Pisgah Ranger District have reopened and Grandfather Mountain will reopen tomorrow, October 23.

🌆 Downtown Asheville infrastructure remained largely untouched by the storm, allowing shops and restaurants to reopen, some with limited operations.

⚠️ There are areas that need more time and support. We are mindful that high impact areas—including Biltmore Village, Swannanoa, and parts of the River Arts District—have a much longer road ahead, so travel to these areas is not advised. We are here for our neighbors throughout western North Carolina.

🗺 Visit North Carolina will continue to update its travel advisory map to reflect the conditions of each community. https://felt.com/map/Travel-Advisory-Western-North-Carolina-24io7oxeTf9B4htHqgiwLaC?loc=35.3452,-82.4419,8.5z

Our deeply rooted, creative community needs support from those inspired to visit our majestic region. We are asking visitors to please be patient, gentle, and respectful as they plan their return❤️‍🩹

Fall is in the air, and the leaves 🍁🍂 are starting to show off! Peak season is expected over the next two weeks! Cashiers and Highlands were mostly spared from Hurricane Helene and businesses are open for the season!…

Our owner, Mary Abranyi, has a few words to share with the Cashiers & Highlands communities:

“In the wake of our recent natural disaster, we are grateful that Cashiers and Highlands were spared any major damage, but our hearts are heavy with the devastation in our surrounding communities. We are not able to sit idly while our sister communities are suffering. We are working closely with a group of friends, several of which have already gone into the hard hit areas of Black Mountain, Marshall, and Asheville, returning with lists of needed supplies and specific drop-off locations. I will be going off the mountain tomorrow to load up a van full of water, toilet paper, paper towels, and food, and we will also be loading a trailer full of gas cans/gasoline to bring over. As of today, our efforts may take us to Canton.

All of this being said, I know there are a lot of people near and far that feel helpless and want to do something. If you are so inclined, I’m accepting donations through my personal Venmo, -Abranyi, and will be using those funds for the supplies…we are not a 501(c)(3) — we’re just a local, family-owned business that cares about WNC.”

Your business supports your communities, not only in Cashiers/Highlands, but across WNC. We are grateful for your continuous support, and we are so thankful for those giving their time and energy to care for our communities together. From Our Hearts to Yours, Namaste 🙏🏻

As Brookings begins to get back to a state of normalcy again, we ache to know how much our neighboring communities are hurting. We know that you all feel the same way, and would like to help out as much as we do. Here are some ways that you can help:

1) This morning we just sent a truckload of waders and boots on their way to the Swannanoa / Bakersville communities. These folks need waders as the waters they are working in are toxic. If you would like to "sponsor" a pair of these waders you can call the shop and make a donation at (828) 743-3768

2) We need you to come back, visit, and support us! We have word that Jackson County will be fully re-opened by Monday. We think that this fall is going to be one of the busiest that we have ever seen. Leaf season is coming, and we are one of the only areas of WNC that has passable road systems. Our rivers are fine, and bouncing back. We have guides out as I type this message. We're catching fish again! We are so confident that this will be one of the busiest falls we've ever seen that we are buying more inventory, and ordering more fish stockings for our private waters than we ever have. We are going to operate at max capacity, and once we recoup sales from the last week of being closed, everything above and beyond what a normal fall season looks like for us will go directly to Hurricane Relief. We don't know what organization we are going to give the money to yet. We are going to give it about a month to make sure we have found the right group before we turn it over. Yes, there are tons of boots on the ground and lots of relief efforts going on right now. That's not going to be the case in a few months, and these folks are still going to need help. By booking a guided trip or buying merchandise in either of our stores or online, you will be directly supporting relief efforts here in WNC!

Our private water is going to look a little different for NEW bookings this fall. Because we are ramping up in every way possible, any NEW booking for our private water guided trips will be sharing the water with other groups. It will still fish good, we promise. We have truckloads of fish coming to make sure of it. If you kept your reservation on the books with us, and did not cancel THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE. You'll still get the place to yourself.

We also know that the Bob Setzer fish hatchery that stocks all the DH streams did suffer minor damages, but they do still have fish to stock. They are just figuring out where they can stock them. There are a lot of DH streams that they will not be able to stock because the roads are out. We know for a fact that there are no roads out between the hatchery and the Tuckaseegee River.

We are ready! Come back and support us and by doing so you will be supporting those that are not as lucky as us. Thank you

Fall is in the air, while many areas of WNC were hit hard by Hurricane Helene we feel so blessed that our home and the surrounding Cashiers/Glenville & truly most of Jackson County were spared…. In speaking with friends and family in the area - we have confirmed businesses are open, internet and power are restored and travel to/from our home, the town and most of Jackson county are clear.

We are also hearing loud and clear from locals that many businesses in our quaint mountain town depend on out of town guests & visitors in the upcoming fall months (many consider October - November peak season). Thus we have made the decision to remain fully open & ready to host guests. We do so with many emotions as in someways it doesn’t seem fair - as so many in the state are still processing. Transparently this generational event has impacted much of WNC & beyond. Homes and business are is disrepair, lives lost & damage beyond imagination has occurred.

We have worked with our management company to be flexible with current bookings & open up additional space on our booking calendar…

We plan to continue to share local events and openings in our story & highlights, plan to donation a portion of profit through the end of the year to charities on the front lines and as owners we have personally donated to NC Disaster relief & will share opportunities to support the community and WNC in our stories….

We are committed to supporting our guests, the local community, WNC and all who have been affected by Helene.
