Thank you to everyone that showed up this weekend. We were few but we were mighty. We had first time team sorters and our little buddy got to come twice and get his Cowboy fix! You know you are in the right crowd when you can stop the sorting and lead a special young man in to sort, not one person complains they all cheer him on! Things like this is the reason we have held on as long as we have.
We will find out about the cattle situation this week and let you all know if we will be able to have the last few events.

We are off to the Old Settlers Parade in Jacksonville OH this morning! After the parade we will be back at the arena to do some open arena sorting. We do not expect enough people to have a competition but we can practice. 🤠😎 (The pic is old to remind us of when the grass was green)

After talking to our cattle guy, with grass and hay at an all time shortage. There is someone coming to look at the cattle. If they sell, this Saturday will be the last sorting at the Ranch. So come out and join us! let’s chase some cows for old times sake!
Thank you all for your offers! We have hay for the horses. It’s not that we don’t know of hay, but feeding cows hay all year kills their value, so it’s more profitable for them to sale now.
The good news is Cory called and said he has enough cows for us to finish the year! You can still come join us this weekend.

It was a great weekend with Dan Keen! Everyone and their horses advanced under Dans guidance. We were lucky Dan didn’t bring a horse from Texas and rode our Miss Kitty. At the end of two days she had her big stop back! Amazing what the right trainer can do for a horse in so little time. We will be putting Dans methods and exercises to work on our horses! If its not soft, its not broke. Thank you Dan and everyone who came out to be part of the clinic! Thanks Jake Davis for setting up the clinic! Our next Robbery Train will be at 6:00 on Aug. 10 with additional departures on the Aug. 24 and Sept. 14, both at 6:00. Play money is included with your ticket and a “gold shipment” is carried on board. Be on the lookout for the robbers of the Smoke Rise Ranch as they would love to rob a train while on horseback. My buddy Bill Whitmore and I went to see our friends at Dogwood Pass yesterday evening. We picked up these hot ladies Diane Whitmore and Jessica Birthisel at the Dogwood Saloon and proceeded to look for trouble! Then the outlaws showed up in town, shot all the men but the ladies led by Calamity Jane saved the night with a little help from the cannon!! It was a wonderful evening!! We highly recommend you stop in at Dogwood Pass take time to walk through the western town and catch a show! Bonus root beer floats yesterday!! Tell Mike Montgomery the Smoke Rise Ranch gang sent ya!!

One of the best Family Fun Shows we have had in a long time!

Baby time!

It takes a village! Newborn baby goat getting cleaned up by momma! We were out of town while this baby made her way into the world, but Thankfully we have a village to help us! Thanks guys for helping this beautiful girl arrive! Now, all our customers who has some name suggestions for this precious soul?

This morning I got up early, didn’t feel good and dreaded another failed event. I went to the bank and come back and when I turned towards outdoor there were trailers everywhere. I’ll be honest I teared up. Today was another great Ranch Rodeo! The Cowboys and Cowgirls came out in force! We just want to say Thank you! We needed today. The grit, laughs and smiles. The Cowboy world is declining in our area and today gave us renewed hope! God bless the Cowboys!

Fall colors are at their peak here at the ranch! It won’t be long before the leaves finish falling. Get your ride with us booked quick!

We used our new timers and clock for the sorting and fun show. I wish we had bought it along time ago. What a difference it makes in the sorting the the judge using the hand switch. Thanks to all that recommended it.

Ready for another episode of “Meet the Horses”??? Today we meet Kiddio. Kiddio is a 20 year old standardbred gelding. He is Jess’s personal horse. She has had him since he was 4 years old and right off the racetrack. Kiddio has been around the block and knows his job. He loves going on trail rides and takes wonderful care of his riders. He really enjoys speed events such as barrel racing, pole bending, and robbing the train. Jess taught him to rear up on command and he uses that knowledge to show off. He loves to try any and all people food. His true favorite snack though is green apple licorice. Apples and carrots are pretty high up on his list of treats though. Be sure to give him a pet and maybe a snack the next time you visit us!

Come ride with us! We will have sorting and roping this weekend, plus a fun show, cowboy church, and of course trail rides going out all weekend long! Or take a few hours and relax by one of our ponds. We will also have a campfire every evening, music and dancing on Saturday night!

The mini’s are getting jobs! Be sure when you stop in to come visit them and give them a well deserved pet! They love the attention!

James and Donna have enjoyed Smoke Rise for a decade and are looking forward to sharing the knowledge and experience with the Smoke Rise family. “Helping others make their dreams come true” is our moto! The ranch offers different types of horse events to give equestrians a chance to try something new or to get out of their comfort zone for a little bit. We offer trail riding, cattle events, obstacle courses, horsemanship clinics, seminars, and just down home fun events like Derby Day races, Train Robberies, and overnight adventure rides.
