Overcoming the challenge that fly fishing presents as the nexus of so many interdisciplinary fields: ichthyology, entomology, ecology, meteorology, physics, etc. is what makes it so rewarding. Being able to create tiny works of art to fool fish all around the world has taken the sense of accomplishment and pure joy in the sport to the next level.

Jason’s fly tying philosophy has always been to focus more on techniques rather than patterns. This allows him to use the same materials in different ways or incorporate new materials when there is no “standard” protocol. Jason is always looking for the next interesting fishy looking material to throw on a hook. He loves to push the creative boundaries of what can be used to craft a fly. Beyond tying at the shows and the symposium, sharing photos and videos on social media has been a fantastic way to find and share inspiration from amazing tiers from all over the world. Mike Slepesky is a husband, father, teacher, and fly fishing fanatic. He started off, like most, fishing conventionally on spin fishing gear and using worms. As time went on, the next challenge was always what gave him the most thrill. Over time, he grew to be a proficient spin angler and targeted Large and Smallmouth bass in rivers, lakes, and ponds. As that obsession grew stale, the next adventure and challenge was trout, specifically on the fly rod. Since his first fish caught on the Gunpowder River, he has been hooked and fishes regularly in a variety of local streams and rivers.
In 2018, Mike turned his hobby into an educational opportunity. He created the YouTube Channel “Tight Lining MD”, which has grown to have more than 4,000 followers and over 400,000 views. In that time, he has shared tips, tricks, and techniques to help those who watch his videos. The mission for starting that channel was to help ease the learning curve of those getting into the sport, or trying a new way of fly fishing.
This determination and passion to educate naturally led him to guiding. With over 10 years of experience fly fishing, and likely thousands of hours spent on the water trying new techniques, it was now time to share that knowledge more personally with people on the waters. The goal of the guide service is to help people learn more about the wonderful world of fly fishing, show them new water, or a new way to approach it, as well as hopefully land a few fish.

Lifelong fishermen and career guides Chase Looney & his father Jim had been chasing permit around the Caribbean for years when they marked Xcalak as a spot on interest on the map. In 2020 they visited for the first time and in 2021 they purchased Casa Paraiso which would become the home base for Xcalak On The Fly.

They fell in love with the small community of 350 people nestled between the jungle of the southern Yucatan peninsula and the turquoise blue waters surrounding the Mesoamerican Reef.

Xcalak has an insane permit fishery. The numbers of tailing permit make it one of (if not) the best permit fishery in the world. Chase quickly became obsessed with top water permit and has had great success on floating crab flies as seen in the Fly Fish Nation’s short film What Lies Above.

Not only is Xcalak a hot permit destination, it has Grand Slam potential. The fishery boasts impressive bonefish and tarpon numbers as well as jacks, snook, barracudas and more.

I started fly tying in 2004. I tie flies for saltwater trout and salmon, trout in lakes, as well as for streams. My passion grew as I progressed in my skills. I was very fortunate to have some good mentors. My passion is teaching, and I really enjoy doing seminars for fly clubs and videos for Youtube.

Located off the US 222 Oregon Pike exit, has a mission to bring affordable on-stream fishing essentials to the greater Lancaster County area. Established in 2022, Creekside prides itself on offering an excellent shopping and guiding experience with trusty local advice. They are also committed to outreach, by directly engaging with and supporting the community. They’ve partnered with the Conestoga River Club to clean nearly 17 tons of trash from the Conestoga River, The Lancaster Conservancy to manage nature preserves and clean water programs, and the local Donegal TU chapter for fishing clinics.
