Due to dry conditions, Grand County has implemented Stage Two Fire Restrictions. This means no open fires, including campfires and charcoal grills, are allowed on public or private lands. Fireworks (except permitted professional displays) and incendiary devices are also prohibited. Smoking is only allowed in enclosed areas.

Violations come with a $1,000 fine. Gas/propane appliances with shut-off valves and fires inside permanent structures are still permitted.

Here comes the ❄️!! Be safe! Be prepared!

The highest probabilities and confidence of heavy snow Wednesday through Thursday night exists in the mountains, foothills, and Palmer Divide, where probabilities of a foot or more of snow are greater than 60-70% in many areas. The chances for a big March snowstorm decrease rather rapidly as one transitions east and northeast from Denver across the plains. Stay tuned for the latest updates on this approaching winter storm. ❄️ Sharing an important avalanche safety message from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center - CAIC on March 2, 2024 ❄️

Snow is heading our way starting tonight, and the avalanche danger is going to increase to HIGH (4 of 5) and CONSIDERABLE (3 of 5) in the Northern and Central Mountains. On Sunday, travel in, near, or under avalanche terrain is not recommended.

Remember to know before you go and follow the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, search for a location or drop a pin on the map at colorado.gov/avalanche to get the daily avalanche forecast before you go into the backcountry to find the places you should avoid and the spots that might be a bit safer.

⚠️As of this morning: Berthoud pass remains closed. ⚠️

All other road closures within the valley and I-70 have been lifted. Avoid taking creatively alternate routes due to road conditions, lack of cell coverage, and it just being a bad idea all around.

❄️Heavy traffic is reported to exist on I-70 from Vail to Denver due to travelers scrambling to return home. Please be cautious and patient if this is along your destination. Roads are plowed but remain snow covered and very icy. ❄️🚗🚌🛻🚙🚛🚑

Winter weather warnings and watches remain in effect throughout the county today. snow accumulation and high winds are expected in areas. 🌬

We appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as the recent storm system lessens and its affects are addressed. 🌥

❄️☃️❄️ Snow is in the forecast in Grand County! Sharing a few winter weather reminders from the Colorado Department of Transportation! ❄️☃️❄️

❄️ Stay three to four car lengths back from snowplows working to keep roads clear and travelers safe.

❄️ Think again before tailgating a snow plow – if you get too close, de-icer and sand could hit your car.

❄️ Don’t pass a snow plow on the right. It is illegal to pass a snowplow when it is displaying its lights and operating in a tandem formation with one or more plows.

November is a lovely time to visit Rocky Mountain National Park.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 22, is forecast to be sunny with a high of 43 degrees at Bear Lake. Trails at lower elevations are fairly dry. When hiking at higher elevations, be prepared for snowpacked and icy trails. Traction devices are recommended.

Temperatures will begin to cool down later in the week, with snow in the forecast Thanksgiving night through Saturday.

Before coming to the park, take time to check the weather and make sure your vehicle is ready for winter driving conditions. For more winter driving tips, visit https://www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/road_status.htm.

🐻🐻Do your part to keep these guys wild and not your next dinner guest!

🐻 It’s always a good time for a reminder to stay Bear Aware. 🐻

Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds us to bear proof our homes and our lives:

✔️ Don’t feed bears, and don’t put out food for other wildlife that attracts bears.
✔️ Be responsible about trash and bird feeders.
✔️ Burn food off barbeque grills and clean after each use.
✔️ Keep all bear-accessible windows and doors closed and locked, including home, garage and vehicle doors.
✔️ Don’t leave food, trash, coolers, air fresheners or anything that smells in your vehicle.
✔️ Pick fruit before it ripens, and clean up fallen fruit.
✔️ Talk to your neighbors about doing their part to be bear responsible.
