Grand Isle Beach/Levee Update:
Closure is Pompano to Boudreaux Lane

Callan Marine:
The Dredge General MacArthur continues dredging. Callan Marine will have the beach area and crossovers from BOUDREAUX Ln to POMPANO Ln closed at this time. Our current discharge location is approximately 1,000โ€™ West of Boudreaux Ln. Callan Marine will have cones, signs and fencing around the perimeter of the work area.

Additionally, Callan personnel will be maintaining ALL crossovers on our pipeline throughout this week to ensure traffic can continue safely on the beach. In the case we need to repair a crossover on the East end of the island we ask that the pedestrians please be aware and steer clear of moving machinery tracking on the beach. Callan will have personnel that will es**rt the machine down the beach if any issues may arise.

Five-S Group:
Five-S continues construction on 5,000โ€™ of the dune clay core from Pompano Ln to Boudreaux Ln. We currently have the access points along this dune section closed off. Crews are stitching geotextile fabric on that dune section and capping it with sand. Heavy offload trucks continue hauling sand from Boudreaux Ln and heading West to offload in the work area. We anticipate completing 3,000โ€™ of this first 5,000โ€™ reach by the end of this week weather permitting. Five-S does have fencing installed, which will restrict golf carts from crossing over to the beach.

Grand Isle Beach/Levee Update:
Current Closure -
Blackberry Lane to Boudreaux Lane for beach restoration
Boudreaux Lane to Pompano Lane for Levee restoration

Callan Marine:
The Dredge General MacArthur continues dredging. Plum Ln and Apricot Ln will be open, and both have crossovers for golf cart access. Callan Marine will have the area from Blackberry Ln to Boudreaux Ln closed at this time. The dredge is producing a lot of sand on the beach now, so progress towards the West will continue as the material builds.

Additionally, Callan personnel are continuously maintaining the crossovers on our pipeline to ensure traffic can continue on the beach.

Five-S Group:
They continue constructing the 5,000โ€™ of the clay core from Pompano Ln to Boudreaux Ln. We currently have the access points along this dune section closed off from Pompano Ln to Boudreaux Ln. Crews are currently stitching geotextile fabric on that dune section and capping it with 6โ€ of sand. Heavy offload trucks are currently hauling sand from Boudreaux Ln to Pompano Ln to cap the dune. We anticipate completing this first 5,000โ€™ of the dune within the next 2 weeks. Five-S does have fencing installed, which will restrict golf carts from crossing over to the beach.

Grand Isleโ€™s beach is a beautiful place to make memories, but it also comes with its dangers. Stay vigilant, spread the word, and have fun.

You can help by continuing to spread word to people about the dangers of rip currents and how to survive if caught in one.

โœจTips to remember:

1. Wear a life vest when in the water at the beach

2. Be vigilant while people are in water

3. Have a pregame meeting with your family who will be on the beach with you and discuss rip current safety

4. Be vigilant when picking spot to swim. Rip Currents can be found:
๐Ÿ‘‰Foam, sediment, or discolored water extending away from shore
๐Ÿ‘‰A narrow gap of darker water between calmer areas of breaking waves
๐Ÿ‘‰a channel of choppy water
๐Ÿ‘‰A line of foam, seaweed, or debris moving out to sea
๐Ÿ‘‰betweeen rock jetties

5. DONโ€™T FIGHT, FLOAT until you feel yourself no longer being pulled then swim parallel to beach then back to shore

6. Stay calm and call for help while floating

Grand Isle Beach/Levee Update:
Current Closureโ€”Pompano to Boudreaux Lane
Starting 5/28-- Plum Lane moving West 1000โ€™

Callan Marine:

The Dredge General MacArthur has arrived on site. Dredging operations did not start this past weekend due to the rough sea conditions at the dredging area. Callan personnel is currently connecting our floating pipeline to our submerged pipeline at the dredging area. Dredge General MacArthur will be towed to the dredging location around 10:00 this morning 05/28. We anticipate beginning dredging operations on afternoon of Tuesday, 05/28.

The shore pipeline currently on the beach is connected and ready for the initial start. We will begin discharging material on the beach by Plum Ln and continue progressing to the West. Callan personnel has installed safety fencing around our discharge location. This fencing will be constructed along the access points and all around the work area going to the gulf. As discussed previously, this will be a 1,000โ€™ corridor that is a continuous moving target and will be picked up and moved as we continue progressing ahead on the beach. Signs and cones will also be placed at these access points to ensure the safety of pedestrians and notify of the active construction zone. This area is NOT to be accessed by any outside pedestrians. We have seen some damage on our safety fencing over the course of the weekend. This has been repaired and is closed off again. Callan Marine asks that all pedestrians stay away from our construction zone and that you stay outside the safety fencing.

Additionally, Callan personnel is continuously maintaining the crossovers on our pipeline to ensure traffic can continue on the beach.

Five-S Group:

Continue hauling clay on site to the dune and construct the clay core. We currently have a 5,000โ€™ work area closed on the dune from Pompano Ln to Boudreaux Ln. We anticipate completing and closing 3,000โ€™ of this dune by June 1st in preparation for hurricane season. Following June 1st, we will only have 2,000โ€™ of the dune closed off and being worked at one time.

Please be careful out there. Recent incidents have our hearts heavy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families. Everyone needs to be aware of the danger of Rip Currents at the beach. As residents and visitors head to the beach and into the water let's watch out for one another.

What is a Rip Current?
A powerful, narrow channel of water flowing away from the beach. Rip currents typically extend from near the shoreline out through the breaker zone where breaking waves form. Rip currents can and do occur on clear, sunny days.

Think of a rip current like this - it is a natural treadmill traveling away from the beach. Rip currents can travel as fast as 8 feet per second - thatโ€™s faster than an Olympic swimmer! A rip current is dangerous because it can sweep even the strongest swimmers out to sea. For that reason, rip currents are life-threatening to anyone entering the surf.

Rip currents also commonly form around breaks in sandbars and near inlets, jetties, and piers (where they are more intense).
