While we are East Tennessee Natives, we spent over 45 years in St. We purchased Rocky Top in the early 1970s (it is one of the oldest beach-side camps on The Island.) Due to post-Katrina support, Grand Isle officials bestowed “Honorary

Grand Isle Residents” to us in November 2005; a humbling honor we hold in high esteem. We look forward to sharing our home away from home with you. And hope that you and your family will enjoy the different commons areas of Rocky Top, as well as the personal privacy the camp layout allows. We completed a full interior/exterior update in 2020/21.

Ludwig’s Store 079A 1933
Ah, Ludwig’s store—now that’s a thread woven deep into the fabric of Grand Isle’s history. Built in **1857**, the old Ludwig Store and Hotel once stood as a vital hub for the island’s community life. It wasn’t just a store; it also housed a **post office** and operated as a **hotel**, serving travelers and locals alike. Imagine the scent of Gulf breezes mingling with fresh goods and the chatter of fishermen swapping stories over supplies.
One of its more curious features? **Terrapin pens** in the marsh nearby—yes, turtles! That detail alone paints a vivid picture of the island’s unique blend of commerce and coastal life. The store continued as a **grocery** into the 1980s, quietly witnessing the tides of change before eventually closing its doors.
