All aboard! The Great Northern caboose is soon to be pulling in for your unique stay.

In recent weeks, our family has embraced the outdoors, camping and finding peace in the quiet moments. This time away has given us the space to pause and reflect, as we prepare for some exciting changes ahead for our cabins.

In the season of transition, Patagonia Cabins is following suite. A blending of the two most monumental places in our hearts is growing and merging into one. As those of you that have been with us for a while, you know how much we love our stance as *Patagonia Cabins*, but to avoid confusion between our two names, we’ve decided to unite everything under one encompassing name: *Great Northern*.

The name is changing, but the influence of Patagonia and Argentinian spirit is forever our foundation and the heart of our cabins and experience.

A tribute to the rich history that connects our cabins to the heart of Grand Marais, our decision was inspired by the latest addition to our family: a Great Northern Railway caboose. We’re honored to revive this very special piece of local history, transforming it into a cozy retreat just steps from Lake Superior. This caboose, soon to be nestled just off the shores of Lake Superior, will undergo a major renovation to become an unforgettable stay.

🐾Exciting News! Great Northern is Now Dog-Friendly!🐾

We’re thrilled to announce that your furry friends are now welcome at Great Northern! As passionate travelers and lifelong animal lovers, this has been a dream of ours for a long time.

Juani grew up with as many as 17 dogs at once, and Stevie has always had dogs by her side—she even brought her beloved Darcie all the way from Alaska to Argentina. For us, traveling without our dogs feels incomplete, whether it’s a road trip, a vacation, or even just a quick run to the grocery store.

From the moment we started Great Northern, we envisioned creating a space where your pets could join in on the adventure.

This year, with the arrival of our newborn, our lives have slowed down in the best possible way. It’s given us time to reflect on what truly matters and to realize that family comes in all shapes and sizes—even with fur and four legs. We’ve always wanted to create a space where pets could join in the adventure, and now, we’re thrilled to make that vision a reality.

We understand how important pets are to our lives, so we’re excited to offer amenities that will make your dog feel right at home. Grand Marais is full of dog-friendly experiences, including a local dog park, countless hiking trails, and serene lakes where you and your dog can explore together.

As we spend time reflecting on 2023 we are filled with gratitude. We’ve hosted nearly 600 of you coming in from all corners of the world.

Meeting our guests and connecting through their stories has brought us a whole new meaning to the word “hospitality”

Thank you to all of those on the other side of this screen supporting our dream. We are blessed for all those who have chosen our cabins to make these life memories with.

⋇ This holiday season brings an extra dose of joy and gratitude as we embark on a new chapter—growing our family and expecting our first. The magic of the season has taken on a whole new meaning, and we're filled with anticipation and love.

After months of wrapping up renovations, we opened our doors to our newest cabin.

Built for couples and small groups (sleeps 4) seeking a retreat in a sustainable stay, we designed this cabin to offer all the necessities one would need in thoughtfulness of nature.

This rustic oasis is a dry cabin, meaning no running water. A perfect place for the more adventurous guests, you'll have access to fresh & wash water for all your cleaning, cooking, and drinking needs. A great way to kick back, reconnect with nature, and appreciate the simple life.

Be sure to explore all The North Shore favorites:
*Gunflint Trail: 8 miles
*Lake Superior: 5 minutes
*Superior Hiking Trail: 5 minutes
*Grand Marais Downtown: 15 minutes

This cozy cabin rests in an old growth maple forest just 5 minutes from the beaches of Lake Superior and 15 minutes from downtown.

Whether you are catching the sunset on the deck, exploring the endless hikes nearby, or playing a whiskey-fueled card game by the fire, this space offers the ultimate cabin experience.

Built for solo travelers and couples seeking a retreat in a sustainable stay, we designed this cabin to offer all the necessities one would need in thoughtfulness of nature.

While not totally off the grid like our other cabins, these cabins still won’t have running water, but will be equipped with electricity and wifi.
