Happy New Year! I wrapped up 2024 with an exciting guided trip for Todd from Massachusetts. We braved the early morning fog and were rewarded with an unforgettable fishing experience.

Hitting the water before dawn, we started our day by picking up a few small snook along the mangroves. As the sun rose, we moved to a wind-protected shoreline, where Todd landed a beautifully stained backwater snook.

It was a great way to end the year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings!

Back in action! Last night's early evening trip yielded this nice snook, caught among the mangroves at sunset. Simple yet effective: finger mullet on a 4/0 circle hook.

Started the day throwing my cast net for finger mullet, but they were scarce. The mosquitoes, however, were plentiful - and made for an itchy decision to move on.

Glad I did - switched to artificials and landed a couple nice trout in 20 minutes, then found shelter under a dock where this beauty was waiting.

Followed up with another smaller snook and a few more trout before calling it quits. Nice morning on the water!

A near full moon during the mullet run is a fisherman's dream! Tonight's plan was to fish with finger mullet, and boy, did it pay off!

Hit the water at 6PM, netted some bait, and searched for activity. Didn't take long to find the hot spot - rigged a bait and sent it into the mangroves, where I hooked a large snook! The fight was intense, but I managed to pull her out of the structure and into open water. What a battle!

Landed and released a few more using the same technique. Tonight was a great reminder why I love fishing during the mullet run. The stress and thrill of fighting large snook along the mangroves at night is unbeatable!

Happy with my night, and now it's time to relax.

Mission Accomplished!

Set out this morning with one goal: catch a big redfish on cut mullet. I hit the water at 5:30am and started with a mangrove shoreline, catching jacks, trout, and small snook on a 4" purple paddle tail.

But the real target was waiting elsewhere... Headed to a spot where I spooked a school of reds yesterday and switched to a fresh chunk of mullet. 10 minutes later, the battle was ON! Had to throw the motor in reverse to avoid getting pulled into the mangroves, but managed to tire out the beast and get a pic. Video coming soon!

Topwater fishing in the mangroves can be explosive... but this was NOT what I expected! A shark appears out of nowhere, with my catch in his sights!

This morning's kayak fishing trip was awesome! The windy conditions didn't stop me from fishing docks with the Mirrolure Lil John. The day started off strong with a beautiful 29" redfish caught beside a dock, surrounded by schools of bait. What a great sign! Next, I landed a couple small trout, followed by a nice snook. Things were looking good! But then, I caught a decent mangrove snapper and a big sail cat (sorry, no pics of those two!). The highlight of the trip came when I cast my lure right up on a piling and hooked the larger of the two snook shown here. He nailed it immediately! As I was wrapping up, I realized I hadn't taken a pic of a trout yet, so I made a quick stop at a windblown mangrove point and caught a few. Here's the largest.
