Good morning from Sunset Haven. 57 degrees and breezy. It was mornings like these, fifty or so years ago, I would awake to the smell of the wood stove and, sometimes, fresh fried doughnuts at my grandparents' camp on Policeman's Cove.
And today's offering...wind!
Aforementioned storm, incoming.
Quite a mess down on Little Sebago Lake from the recent spring storm. Sunset Haven was spared everything but some downed branches and smaller trees across the driveway, but we have neighbors who currently have three trees lying on their house. We are glad there were no guests there during this whole episode. Power is still out.
OK, Sunset Havenites, the entire month of June has been like this pretty much every single day. I am not exaggerating. There has been no stretch of dry days for us to do the exterior painting or treatment of moss on the roof, and almost no sunshine. We are profoundly disappointed, but will try for the exterior work again in September when we have the camp back from the summer rental season.
We were able to make nice improvements and upgrades, though, including a brand new, full size washer and dryer, new loveseat, new curtains, additional kitchen cabinet painting, new wheels on the slider doors, new kitchen knives and cutting boards, and more. We just can't do any painting or outside building work right now and haven't been able to this entire month.
It's extremely disappointing for us, but hoping for better weather for all of you!
OK, Sunset Havenites, this is pretty much what it's looked like here the entire month of May, which is when we are able to do upgrades and maintenance to the cottage before the summer rental season.
While we have been able to make a lot of nice improvements overall, this weather is why the exterior painting will not have been done and why we were not able to remove the moss on the roof with a chemical treatment. We will try again in September.
We are disappointed and hoping for better weather for all of you.
On a brighter note, this is our visitor today.
Two minute fireplace tutorial on how guests can avoid inflicting this kind of damage. We'll take pics on the other side of our cleaning up/fixing all this.
Thank you to all of our guests who keep visiting and repeat-visiting at Sunset Haven. This is our 16th consecutive time as Superhosts.
A bit windy at Sunset Haven this evening.
Yes, folks, the Good Ship Gelato is on the lake!
Dear Sunset Havenites. I am scrubbing down the lazy susan for the summer. Please do not buy coffee filters, salt and pepper, or regular tea. We've got a LOT of it here!
