For over 15 years, Catherine’s opened her heart & historic farmhouse doors to couples worldwide. The expansive property allows you to curate your dream Maine barn wedding, surrounded by authentic charm. They even offer full-service catering & mobile bar to make your day unforgettable!

We got the honor of speaking with Catherine about her property, and we left feeling inspired by the work she does for her couples and the community. Take a peek at what she shared with us:

“My family has owned the farm since 1936, and over 20 years ago I bought the property. I started farming, connected with the close-knit service industry around Portland, and used to host harvest parties, a time-honored tradition in Maine.

At one of the harvest parties, a friend asked if they could get married at the farm. I said yes, and then it just snowballed from there! Friends who loved their experience told their friends, and now I’m all-inclusive and 90% of my couples use my catering company, Barn & Table Catering. I also require hiring The Bar Association (which has the best name ever) to serve alcohol at events.

My venue’s superpower is authenticity. My bar manager bought the property next door, which I sold to her years ago. We’re basically a family that works together, and we’re all chill and low-key.

Couples love that their carbon footprint is almost non-existent because I grow all the vegetables for the events. They also love how my team makes their events easy. We know everyone, have the best vendor list, and I’m sincere about recommendations: “if you don’t book with me, book this photographer on my list. They’re fantastic!”

I’m a Maine native, born and raised, but I was living in Alaska when the farm went up for sale and decided to start a new life here. I see a lot of similarities between Alaska and Maine, which helps me connect with my brides on a deeper level.

A long long time ago, in what seems like another lifetime, before the hundreds of weddings we’ve hosted, Caswell Farm was a place for all of Portland’s hospitality folks to gather and celebrate the end of the busy tourist season. Weekends full of music, food, fun, friends, bonfires and outright revelry. There was so much love and celebration in the fall air. It is still written in our bones to this day.

Nicole + Brad picked up on that aura as soon as they stepped on the property, and their day was equal parts love, style and the most amazing party! Just as we all remembered it. It felt really good to be there with them, back in our roots at a great party on the Farm.

Last year, a girl named Ella reached out to us (with her mom’s help) to let us know how useful this list was in researching Black History Month for her school project. She sent along an additional link to a neat little timeline of important milestones in Black History for us to add to our list. Thanks, Ella! We hope school is going great this year!

The Rock! At the southwest corner of our old barn sits this giant boulder exactly where it’s laid since the dawn of time. It really is the cornerstone of the farm and so much of what we’ve built over the years has been built around “the rock”. It’s never obtrusive, but always graces nearly every photo and seamlessly “ties the room together”, as The Dude says. For the kids, however, it is always the very first thing they seem to find here at the farm! They can feel taller than everyone else.

December! It’s the last month of the year, so what better time than now to look back on some of our favorite memories and perfect shots from 2023! It just wouldn’t feel right to talk about this year without at least a mention of the *ahem* “weather” and all the challenges it threw at us. But the love and tenacity of our amazing couples brought such beautiful and heartfelt moments to each of these rainy days. And, it turns out, rainy days make for amazing photos!
