The Silver Dollar Saloon!

Unfortunately, at the time we got to Leadville, the Saloon was closed and we were not able to go in. Hopefully next time, we are able to go in. The saloon seems to have quite the lineup of legendary visitors, each with their own intriguing stories. Doc Holiday, known both as a dentist and a gunslinger, certainly left his mark on the Old West. His time spent playing cards and the piano in the saloon adds to the allure of the place. And Margaret "Molly" Brown, famous for surviving the sinking of the Titanic, also frequented the saloon, making it a notable spot in her early days in Leadville.

With such historical figures crossing paths there, it's no wonder the saloon is said to be haunted—there must be countless tales echoing through its walls!

If you have ever visited this historic site and/or seen some of the paranormal events some people have experienced, pleased feel free to share!

Down the street from the House with the Eye museum is a beautiful Jewish synagogue. When silver was discovered in Leadville, 30,000 people moved to see if they could get their riches from mining. Among these, 1 percent of them were Jewish in the early 1880s. These Jewish people can trace their roots back to Germany. There was a large congregation of Jewish people that met in this church until 1912. After that time, the synagogue was restored and turned into a museum. It is amazing to see the wonderful photos and the amazing people who moved here for a better life.

The first stop on our walking tour in Leadville took us to the House with the Eye! This house was built in 1879 and is home to many things including an electric piano and Baby Doe Tabor's shoe! We loved to be able to see the many items that were part of home living back in the late 1800s. Be careful of the stairs though, they are steep!

P.S. the eye glass was not made to scare people and the house isn't haunted... At least, I don't think so...

The mountains and valleys along Highway 91 towards Leadville, Colorado are so beautiful! When silver deposits were discovered in 1877 in Leadville, the town of Kokomo, Colorado started to boom with mines. The population grew to 10,000 in the year 1881. Just like many mining towns, a fire broke out and the town became a ghost town along with the surrounding towns of Recen and Robinson. In Summit Country there is a mile marker commemorating the highest Masonic lodge in Colorado at over 10,000 feet. There was a lot to see along the road to Leadville where people lived and prospered.

The first photo is what the lodge looked like in its heyday. https://www.thesquaremagazine.com/mag/article/202212a-lodge-raised-from-ashes/

As you drive past the border of Colorado and Utah, you come upon Thompson Springs. Just North is Sego Canyon. This canyon leads to an old coal mining camp, petroglyphs, and an old cemetary. The Petroglyphs date as far back as 600 AD. There is also rock art that dates back to 7000 BC. Sego is considered a ghost town because of the structures that were left by these miners. There are remnants of the company store and houses in Sego and along the canyon. Sego was discovered by Harry Ballard and eventually housed 500 people and began mining coal. Once the coal powered things started to fade and more oil was being used, the town started to lose money. Of course, people move to make money elsewhere and the town fell to ruin. If you have a chance to make your way out there, please show some other photos that you may have! Have a great day and happy exploring!

Side note, the cemetery had so many names of immigrants that came there for a better life that worked in the mining camp.
