Show your love for the most beautiful state the nation. Happy Valentine's Day Montana.

As a reminder to those recreating in the Blackfoot River corridor this summer, a portion of Johnsrud Road is CLOSED from now through late October while the route is resurfaced. The dotted line on this map indicates the closure.

The heavily-used route runs parallel to the Blackfoot River 17 miles east of Missoula, starting at the Johnsrud Park turnoff on Highway 200. The road will be closed from just past the turnout near Messina Drive (milepost 0.7) to Whitaker Bridge (milepost 6.1). The recreation and fishing access sites along this stretch of Johnsrud Road (Darrell Sall Memorial, Daigles Eddy, Sheep Flats, and Thibodeau Rapids), and Thibodeau Campground will be unavailable during the road improvement project.

Johnsrud Park day-use site and Whitaker Bridge boat launch/day-use site will remain OPEN.

To access Whitaker Bridge, visitors will need to come from the east via Ninemile Prairie Road.

Please note…

Due to worsening fire danger, campfires are banned and other fire restrictions are taking effect at all Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks sites in northwest Montana, effective July 17, 2021.

All private, state, and Kootenai National Forest lands within Lincoln, Sanders, and Lake counties will enter Stage 2 restrictions to help reduce wildland fire risk and prevent wildfires during periods of very high and extreme fire danger.

All private, state, and Flathead National Forest lands within Flathead County are entering Stage 1 fire restrictions. Stage 1 restrictions ban campfires except where specifically exempted and allow smoking only in vehicles and areas 3 feet in diameter that are cleared of flammable materials. FWP is not exempting any of its sites in Flathead County, therefore banning campfires.

Respect!

It’s early July in 2021. After a winter of average snow pack, and a long, steady run-off that brought snow down from April 20th on, the freestone rivers of Missoula are feeling the effects. Hoot Owl restrictions are in place on the Clark Fork River...

💦Water!💦

Critical for the Blackfoot River, irrigators, & trout. Through our collaborative work with private landowners, TU National, USFWS, MTFWP and others we’ve been able to conserve over 75 cubic feet per second or 33,600 gallons per minute!!

As summer heats up and river flows drop, this water stays in the river, helping keep water temperatures cooler. These projects are voluntary and designed to meet the needs of irrigators while making a difference for the river.

Want to help support our efforts? You have until June 30th to check out our online auction! Bid on an item or leave a donation that goes directly towards restoring the Big Blackfoot River and it’s many tributaries!

Just under 2 hours, but worth the drive.

This casual steakhouse was once a railroad station in the late 1800s.
