The move to an independent shop allows us to do better work, faster, and cheaper, all while developing a personal connection to ensure customers get exactly what you need.
They really went after it. Maybe a little too hard.
We got a special visit from today! He loves to check in and inspecting our work. Maybe he secretly works for OSHA š®
I had to get a new phone, but that means I have a way better camera! Sorry in advance if you are eating when you see this.
This is what the chinrest looks like - so just imagine the rest of the violin!
(Not just brass instruments need regular cleaning - woodwinds and strings get gross too!)
You nth reminder to never put rubber bands on your instruments! Fabric coated hair ties! Please and thank you.
They were wrong: it was two marbles! šš¤¦š½āāļø Why did they do that? And what did they think was going to happen? These are questions we never ask to (or about) middle schoolers.
Weāre here at in Athens this weekend! All things horn! Tell me your favorite horn solo/excerpt!
Tomorrow we will be at UNCGās Brass and Percussion Day! Come see your favorite people (me and Katie) and our favorite people (UNCG faculty)! Maybe also learn something from the many resources that will be offered FOR FREE!
When you find a giant crack in a horn that was almost finished šš¤¢š”š«¢šš¤
is waiting for you to visit us! She is also waiting on us to get it together and post most often. Itās not because we donāt love you, weāre just very busy.
New pliers day is always a good day. Too bad about the color showing how gross my hands can be. This pair lasted two years of being my most-used everyday pliers. Any bets on how long this new pair (my third) will last?
We had a great time at but we are glad to be done and (almost) caught up on rest. There were two winners of the āguess how many things in the jarā raffle, and one lucky winner of a new tuba case!
Today Iām addressing a question a lot of you had about what was in the jar: why is there a burnt up business card? When unsoldering just one side of a brace, I will slide a business card in between the brace and the tube so that I donāt have to pull the whole thing off. Itās sturdy enough to use a little force, thin enough to fit in a tight and curved spot, and small enough that I donāt have to do any prep! Iām working on a Conn 8D today and need to do the same thing so I thought I would share!
Thereās a nip in the air and the time is about to change: it must be time for NCMEA! Come see us for a chance to play a raffle, win prizes, get your instruments fixed, and see your favorite people!
This year we are bringing our friend Devan (letās call him a guest artist)! He has been making music themed jewelry and gifts. They are beautiful and nerdy and accurate! All of my favorite things š„°

Sometimes aluminum valve stems will corrode in such a way that they get stuck in the barrel. When that happens, and when we are out of stuck parts options, we have to literally melt the aluminum out of there with acid. Itās fun! Itās gross! Itās time consuming! Itās all our favorite things! Here are some of the stages of this Bach valve stem, including a tray full of aluminum debris.
I donāt have anything to say about this. It just makes me smile going into the long weekend.
(Not because we have a day off. Because weāll continue to work long days through the weekend. If you need anything, shoot us a message - surely weāll be around!)
If you guessed that the water key wasnāt drilled out then you were right! Part of what I do when Iām cleaning your instrument is checking that all the small parts also work. Mostly Iām checking that the water key DOESNT leak, but I also like to make sure that it does in fact let out water. This trumpet has been played and repaired since the 90s and no one brought it up until now šš¤¦š½āāļø
Come see your local thorough technicians!
Can you spot the problem? Itās a big one, and one that has gone unnoticed for an unknown amount of time. Sometimes we see this on newly shipped instruments and parts, but this is the first time weāve seen it on a trumpet thatās on its second owner.
(Donāt make fun of my nails! I painted them to go see the Barbie movie and now they look likeā¦this)
While schools are about to start, we are still working our bell tails off to get instruments back. Itās a good problem to have, but we still want everyone to be ready in time!
Itās been a long/fun two weeks at the UNCG Summer Music Camp! I say two weeks but itās only been a week and two days. Even Hilde is tuckered out! Check on us on Monday to make sure we made it!
Being super busy and a little bit backlogged makes keeping all the little parts organized more essential than ever! Support your local technicians with positive affirmations and pet pics please.
Weāre here at the Mars Hill University Summer Music Camp today making sure everyone has the best opportunity to succeed! If your instrument doesnāt work at camp, how much fun can you really have? We want to make sure all of these kids can focus on learning new skills, making new friends, and furthering their love of music, not struggling with their instruments.
Update: it was 40! Congratulations Jacy! Iāll send you something nice in the mail!
Now, who wants to guess how many are in this room? And more importantly who wants to do all this work for me š

Hi, B&F fans! I know I havenāt been keeping up with my āpost every weekā resolution, but can you blame me? Just look at what I brought back to the shop today!
On a related note: whoever can guess how many instruments are in my car gets a prize! I donāt know what the prize is yet. I also donāt know how many are in there yet, but I am going to count as I unload š
Make your guesses in the comments, and wish me luck!

Hereās the other water key. Why do I have to keep saying this? šš¤¢
I donāt want to tell you how to live your life butā¦donāt put rubber bands on your brass instruments!
Rubber bands have sulphur in them, which will react with the zinc in brass and accelerating red rot.
INSTEAD use a fabric hair tie as a temporary fix and bring it to your local tech! Water key problems are often easy fixesā¦until they arenāt, like this one.
Until next time!
A little Tuesday morning logo retouching before this clarinet gets the next steps in its repad service. On the left, the lower joint logo has been prepped to be filled with fresh color, and on the right the upper joint logo is all finished! (Iām sparing you a complete before picture, where the logo is full of years of finger gunk.)
Remember how we were going to post every week as part of a new year do better resolution? Sorry about that. Itās been tough moving and working at the same time (plus itās tax time!) so weāre going to try harder! For you, the B&F Fans!
Just because you didnāt do your New Yearās resolution perfectly doesnāt mean you failed at it. Weāre trying again and so can you. If that resolution includes practicing or better instrument maintenance, even better!

This is my favorite video to show anyone who asks if I ever see anything gross (and I say DO I!) This week my favorite video turns TEN YEARS OLD! Thats likeā¦4th grade! Show us some love, and, for the love of all that is goopy, snake out your leadpipe! #tenyearsago #brushyourteeth #cleanyourinstrument
