Discovering people in the places you visit is critical if you want to have a real immersive experience.
Going to to a different country is not only about trying the food and taking some nice pictures.
It's also about getting to know your hosts and understanding what their culture is about.
Getting to know their traditions and experiencing their way of life is what that means.
When you go to Medellín and get to know its people, you'll find their true essence.
They're warm, united and welcoming.
They're honest and open to those who visit.
And they're incredibly resilient, industrious and entrepreneurial.
All of this has allowed them to rebuild their region after decades of violence and desolation.
They're one of a kind.
I can write a few more lines telling you what I've found, but I think it'd be more worthwhile if you came to Antioquia to see it for yourself.
Send me a DM and let's talk about what you can experience in your next trip to Medellín.

Doña Marina's story is one of resilience and community.
She was displaced from her home at a young age and arrived in Moravia, Medellin's former city dump.
They had to work very hard, but they were able to build a new life.
Now, this lively neighborhood has a rich history, beautiful gardens and a community school where waste is repurposed!
You can also be a part of Moravia’s history!
Join World Awaits on a private tour to explore the heart of Moravia.

Every time I go to Medellin I learn something new.
For example, just recently I learned a completely new term in Parque Arvi.
A place that’s right outside the city and there is a special section of the park where you can relax.
But they have a different name to it.
It’s called “Parchar” and it means to relax or to spend time doing things you enjoy doing.
And that’s what I did.
I let myself go in the park’s hammocks and forgot about any worries I had.
But if you’re a little more inclined to other things, you can play some games, enjoy a hot drink or have something to eat.
When you’re in Parque Arví It’s all up to you.
Come to Medellín and enjoy a day out “Parchando”.
You will not regret it.
And if you want to find out more about what else you can do in Medellín when you visit, just leave me a comment and I’ll tell you a lot more.
Medellin awaits you!

May was amazing because I was able to visit Cali again.
I enjoyed a visit to Barrio Obrero during the “Venite al Obrero” salsa festival.
I spent some time dancing, getting to know the people of Cali and taking all their energy in.
There was an amazing celebration because the Mayor’s office was promoting the Salsa Route, an event that helps put salsa culture right at the center stage.
It was very exciting to be there and get to know a bit more about Cali and the Salsa culture.
Experiences like this help me add more depth to the cultural experiences I’m creating for people to come with me to Colombia.

Cali's salsa scene isn't just hot, it's infectious!
Barrio Obrero is Cali’s most emblematic salsa scene and its streets are lined with music and energy.
Kids are front and center, dancing to the rhythm that pulses through their veins.
From a tender age kids are immersed in the city's salsa, soaking up the passion and rhythm in every step.
The streets become their dance floor, a constant beat fueling their creativity.
Witnessing this isn't just entertainment, it's a cultural awakening.
It's about community, joy, and a deep heritage passed down through generations.
This is Cali salsa, and it's unlike anything you've ever seen or danced before.
So, come experience it for yourself!

I was in Cali and I visited la Azotea de la Abuela.
This is a community table that happens monthly and with a very special meaning this month due to the celebration of Afro-Colombian History Month.
We spent time together honoring our mothers and celebrating the end of slavery in Colombia.
La Azotea de La Abuela is led by Doña Elena Hinestroza, a direct descendant of people that suffered the cruelty of slavery in this region of Colombia.
Today, that’s a past chapter in Colombian history that left scars in thousands.
But initiatives such as this community table help bring awareness to this matter.
Besides, it’s an opportunity to connect with people you share beliefs with and celebrate with them the end of part our world’s dark past.
There’s a lot more I could say about la Azotea, but consider this an invitation to reflect on these stories and think about how far we’ve come as a people.
Leave your comments below about how you feel about this and let me know what else you want to know about La Azotea.

Cartagena is a place I love to visit.
You can have amazing food, learn a ton about its history or just enjoy a good party.
But one of the most fun and exciting adventures is finding the city’s true cultural identity anywhere you go.
Like when I went to the south of Cartagena and I found myself in the heart of a musical and cultural celebration.
I saw this amazing Cumbia demonstration being held right under the Caribbean stars.
It helped me understand a little bit more about where it came from and how two different worlds can create a powerful cultural expression.
Come to Cartagena to discover its true identity.

I recently discovered Popayán.
I found out so many amazing things about this city, that you wouldn’t believe it.
For example…
There are over 20 nicknames that the city receives and each one has a special meaning to it.
The second Palenque in Colombia was founded here.
At some point, Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera abolished catholicism and converted all monasteries into colleges.
16 presidents, and a number of notable people in Colombian history, were born in this city.
It’s filled with history and a powerful heritage fueled by an amazing mix of cultures.
There is so much more I could say about Popayán, but you better come to see it for yourself.
