I'm getting a lot of questions about what's happening with water and weather in the white mountains. Thought I would make a post just to sum things up, especially since Labor Day weekend is just around the corner.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, lakes are still warm. I would avoid anything under about 8,500 ft elevation or the fish are going to be struggling and you will see mortality if you catch and release.

For streams, I fished a stream on the reservation yesterday that's 8,600 feet elevation and midday, it was 65°. This means that if you go any lower, you're going to have the same issues with warm water, fish hunkering down, and just tough fishing.

This has been a very weak and almost non-existent monsoon season. We'll get an hour or two of rain and then things will dry up for several days.

If you are practicing catch and release, it's a good idea to fish above about 8,500 ft elevation. Try not to have fish out of the water for more than a few seconds, don't over play them and make sure that they are strong before releasing them.

When in the White Mountains- make sure you stop at the Ranch Market at X Diamond Ranch for the best beef in AZ and so many awesome things in their market like fresh bread, home made jellies and jams, fresh eggs and so much more! The ranch is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite places near Greer. X Diamond Ranch

🚩 It’s a red flag day! 🚩 When visiting Greer or the White Mountains- you need to know what that means. If you see red flags along the roadways- that means high winds- high fire danger- no burning wood, no lighting charcoal, no smoking outside (gas bbq’s are allowed) Help protect our forests. 🥰

Great idea if you are camping somewhere that doesn’t allow open flame or charcoal - happens every year here in AZ. You can still make s’mores on your gas bbq grill. Greer River's Edge Cabin & Cottage
